Titans Feast On Red Hawks

UW-Oshkosh had four players score in double figures as it led the entire game during its 69-43 victory over Ripon College on Tuesday (Nov. 23) in Kolf Sports Center.

Shelby Churchill (Sr. • Sheboygan) showed the way with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Titans (4-1), who did not have a player eclipse 10 points in the last two games. Megan Wenig (So. • Oshkosh) nailed 3-of-4 three-pointers en route to 16 points, while Katie Kitzke (So. • South Milwaukee) tacked on 13 and Michelle Boeder (Sr. • Oshkosh) 10.

Close-range buckets by Churchill and Wenig got UW-Oshkosh out to a quick 6-2 lead. The Titans then used a Kitzke three-point shot and two Churchill lay-ups to move further in front. After Ripon College (1-2) marked its first field goal 5:07 into play, Wenig buried a deep jumper to earn an 18-4 cushion.

Katie Raymond knocked down a triple and lay-up before teammate Kacie Cullen accomplished the same feat. An Emily Meyer bucket with 7:25 on the clock cut the UW-Oshkosh advantage to 23-16.

The Titans restored their lead with a 10-3 scoring run to close the first half. Kitzke poured in eight of her team's 10 points, including a long-distance connection to go up, 35-21. Boeder's two free throws made it a 38-21 margin at the break.

Churchill tallied six points in the opening three minutes of the second half. Wenig followed that with six consecutive on a deep jumper and a traditional three-point play to gain a 52-27 cushion.

The closest Ripon College would get was 17 points (52-35) on Cullen's lay-in with 9:38 remaining. The Titans put an exclamation point on the win when Sarah Stecker (Fr. • Menasha) drilled a lay-up and three-pointer 12 seconds apart during the closing minutes.

UW-Oshkosh hit 7-of-12 from behind the arc (58 percent) as it finished with 42 percent shooting overall (25-60). The Titans, who got a team-high four assists from Kitzke, made 12-of-18 free throws and earned a 43-38 rebounding edge.

The Red Hawks shot 30 percent (16-53) as Raymond led the way with 18 points. Cullen booked 11 points and nine rebounds, while Meyer also grabbed nine boards. Ripon College committed 17 turnovers, made 2-of-12 three-pointers (17 percent) and hit 9-of-18 at the foul line.
