Green Knights Charge Past Titans

St. Norbert College put together a 36-2 scoring run during the second half as it pulled ahead and topped the UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team, 60-41, on Saturday (Nov. 28) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Green Knights (4-0) were down, 22-18, at halftime before Shelby Churchill (Jr. • Sheboygan) recorded a pair of lay-ups to put the Titans (1-3) in front, 28-20. St. Norbert then got hot from the field and turned up the defense as it posted a 56-30 advantage with 4:22 remaining.

UW-Oshkosh hit 50 percent (9-18) of its shots during the opening period, while the Green Knights connected on just 23.3 percent (7-30). The Titans held St. Norbert without a point for 6:40 late in the first half, but the Green Knights responded to shut down UW-Oshkosh for an extended period during the second stanza.

Each team had 10 players score in the game, topped by 16 points from Kristin Zimmerman of St. Norbert. Denise Heuser added 15 points, while Rachel Hermus pulled down a team-leading five rebounds and Stefanie Bunday notched six assists.

Churchill paced the Titans with 10 points and seven rebounds, as Heidi Baerenwald (So. • Appleton), Laura Ebbens (Jr. • Appleton) and Michelle Boeder (Jr. • Oshkosh) tallied six points apiece. Churchill also recorded two blocks and Boeder two steals.

Each team had 10 players score in the game, topped by the 16 points of St. Norbert College's Kristin Zimmerman. The Green Knights also received 15 points from Denise Heuser and eight from Jamie Kuhl. UW-Oshkosh was led by the 10 points of Shelby Churchill (Jr. • Sheboygan) and the six of Heidi Baerenwald (So. • Appleton), Michelle Boeder (Jr. • Oshkosh) and Laura Ebbens (Jr. • Appleton).

UW-Oshkosh collected 30 rebounds, including seven by Churchill and six by both Baerenwald and Dannielle Bauer (Jr. • Dell Rapids, S.D.). The Titans had nine assists, with Baerenwald and Boeder totaling two each.

St. Norbert College grabbed 23 rebounds and registered 18 assists. Rachel Hermus led the Green Knights with five rebounds, while Stefanie Bunday dished off a team-high six assists.

UW-Oshkosh finished the contest shooting 43.6 percent (17-39) from the field and 70 percent (7-10) from the free-throw line. The Titans missed all five of their three-point shots.

St. Norbert College ended the game shooting 44.6 percent (25-56) from the field and 50 percent (4-8) from the free-throw stripe. The Green Knights made six of their 15 three-point shots (40 percent).

UW-Oshkosh, which has exclusively played teams from the Midwest Conference so far this season, opens its 16-game WIAC schedule by visiting UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday (Dec. 2).
