Red Hawks Scratch Out Victory Over Titans

Erin Lind knocked down three of her team's 10 three-pointers to lead Ripon College past the UW-Oshkosh women's basketball team, 66-61, on Tuesday (Nov. 24) in Ripon.

Lind totaled a career-best 23 points for the Red Hawks (2-1), who mounted a 20-6 scoring run midway through the first half to gain a 29-16 advantage.

In the second half, the Titans pulled to within two points at 31-29 on a jumper by Shelby Churchill (Jr. • Sheboygan). Ripon College then built a 45-35 lead over the next seven minutes, featuring four more points by Lind.

UW-Oshkosh stormed back to tie the game at 46 with 8:39 remaining, thanks to a pair of free throws by Megan Wenig (Fr. • Oshkosh). Lind broke that deadlock with a three-point basket as the Red Hawks stayed on top the rest of the way.

UW-Oshkosh took its first lead of the game at 10-9 on a three-point basket by Katie Kitzke (Fr. • South Milwaukee) with 14:29 remaining in the opening half. Moments later, a jump shot by Ashley Meister gave the lead back to the Red Hawks.

Two three-point baskets, one from Staci Dieringer and one from Lind, extended Ripon College's lead to 17-10. The Titans answered, pulling to within five points (17-12) on a jumper from Kelsey Myklebust (So. • Wisconsin Dells) with 12:35 remaining in the first half.

The Titans were outscored 12-4 during the next seven minutes and found themselves in a 13-point hole with 5:42 to play. Five points from Kitzke and two from Ebbens got UW-Oshkosh to within 31-25 at halftime.

Kitzke (Fr. • South Milwaukee) posted a career-high 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field for the Titans. UW-Oshkosh (1-2) also received 12 points from Laura Ebbens (Jr. • Appleton), nine points and three assists from Michelle Boeder (Jr. • Oshkosh) and nine points and 14 rebounds from Churchill.

Lind also topped Ripon College with eight rebounds, while Carissa Zuercher and Jessica Goudreau tacked on 12 points each.

UW-Oshkosh shot 50 percent from the field (26-52) and 54.5 percent (6-11) from the free-throw line (6-11). The Titans shot 27.3 percent (3-11) from three-point range and committed 22 turnovers.

Ripon College made 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) shots from three-point range and 23-of-58 (39.7 percent) attempts from the field overall. The Red Hawks made 83.3 percent (10-12) of their free throws.

Ripon College committed 14 turnovers while losing the rebounding battle to the Titans, 27-34.

UW-Oshkosh hosts St. Norbert College in its home opener on Saturday (Nov. 28).
