Nemetz Headlines Titans’ NFCA All-Region Recognition
OSHKOSH, Wis.- Sydney Nemetz was named UW-Oshkosh softball's first team member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region VIII, joined by three teammates on Friday (May 17).
Along with Nemetz (Jr. • Marinette), Abby Freismuth (Sr. • Fond du Lac) earned a second team nod and Hannah Ritter (Sr. • Marengo, Ill.) and Haylie Wittman (So. • Kaukauna) were tabbed for third team.
Nemetz owns an 18-2 record on the season in 22 starts with 14 saves. In her 135.2 innings of work, she has struck out 155 batters and walked just 31. She has allowed 22 earned runs for a 1.14 ERA, a .860 WHIP and collected a save in her only relief appearance of the season. She made her third appearance on the All-WIAC First Team on May 15.
Freismuth earned her first career all-region team with 19 pitching appearances this season, going 12-1 in 16 starts, seven complete games and a save. Across her 93.0 innings, she owns a 1.28 ERA with 17 earned runs allowed and 62 strikeouts.
Ritter is now a four-time all-region member, previously being named to the first team in 2022 and the second team in 2021 and 2023. She joins four Titans as a four-time all-region honoree; Nila Gruenwald (1982-85), Katie Koepsel (2012-15), Ronessa Stampfli (2005-08) and Jamie Ziegel (1984-88). Ritter, who is also the WIAC's all-time hits leader, is hitting .431 with 15 doubles, a triple and 35 RBIs. She has walked 18 times and struck out just seven times for a .494 on-base percentage in 160 plate appearances.
Wittman also made her first all-region team on Friday. She is slashing .339 at the plate with a .406 on-base percentage and 12 extra base hits. Her six home runs on the year rank second on the team and much like Ritter, has struck out fewer than 10 times (eight) across Oshkosh's 45 games so far this season.
The regular season WIAC champion Titans, who qualified for the NCAA Tournament as an at-large bid, are currently hosting a regional bracket and will face the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) at 11 a.m. on Saturday (May 18) for the rights to advance to the super regional round of the tournament.
