Titans Win Nightcap To Split With Pointers

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team spit games with UW-Stevens Point losing the first game and winning the second on Wednesday (Apr. 24).

The No. 19 nationally ranked Titans (28-2, 6-2 WIAC) were beat 3-0 in game one before coming back in the second game to defeat the No. 20 Pointers (26-4, 6-2 WIAC) 3-2.

Sydney Nemetz (Jr. • Marinette) started in the circle for the Titans, throwing 6.1 innings. She recorded six strikeouts and allowed nine hits and two walks and took her first loss of the season (12-1).

Titans got their first hit in the first inning with a leadoff single to right field from Abby Garceau (Jr. • Michicot). She advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt before the next two Titans got out. Their next hit came in the third when Garceau singled to third base and was again stranded on base.

Oshkosh found the most action in the fourth inning with three hits. Sophie Wery (Jr. • Seymour) doubled off a left field line drive, Haylie Wittman (So. • Kaukauna) singled to the pitcher which advanced Brianna Davis (Jr. • Oshkosh), who was pinch running for Wery, to third. Sydney Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove, Ill.) then reached on a bunt to third and Wittman to advance to second to load the bases with one out. Morgan Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove, Ill.) reached first on a fielder's choice as Davis was tagged out on her run home for the second out and Morgan Miller (So. • Schaumburg, Ill.) fouled out to the third baseman for the third.

Stevens Point put the first run on the board with an RBI single down the left field line in the top of the fifth inning.

Oshkosh counted additional hits in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings as Cali Divito (Jr. • Inverness, Ill.) hit a single to right center and Sydney Rau singled to left field.

Stevens Point scored its second and third runs in the seventh inning with a double to left center and a single to left field.

Brianna Bougie (Fr. • Oshkosh) closed out the game for the Titans, pitching two thirds of an inning with one hit allowed.

Abby Freismuth (Sr. • Fond du Lac) was the starting pitcher in the second game for the Titans. She pitched 4.1 innings with three strikeouts and allowed seven hits.

The game remained scoreless for the first three innings before the Pointers put the first run on the board with an RBI groundout to Morgan Rau in the fourth inning.

Wery collected an RBI with a single through the left side to score Garceau and tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. Wittman hit an RBI double to left center for the Titans' second run, sending Lizzie Slobodecki (Jr. • Carol Stream, Ill.) home.

The Pointers tied the game up, 2-2 in the fifth inning with an RBI single to left field.

Bougie went into the game at the top of the fifth, pitching 2.2 innings. She did not allow a single batter to reach base, recording two strikeouts to go with her eight straight outs.

The Titans broke the tie in the sixth inning with single to left center field from Wittman that sent Sydney Rau home.

The Titans will return for another home doubleheader at Carroll University on Thursday (Apr. 25). First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
