Titans Sweep Sabres In Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team took both decisions over Marian University at the Sabres' Smith Field on Wednesday (April 10) with scores of 3-1 and 7-0.

Abby Freismuth (Sr. • Fond du Lac) threw her fifth complete game of the season in game one for Oshkosh (20-0), moving to 6-0 on the season with eight strikeouts while allowing a run on five hits and three walks.

Marian (10-8) scored first in the opener, hitting a 2-out single to right field in the second inning.

With her fourth triple of the season, Sophie Wery (Jr. • Seymour) scored Hannah Ritter (Sr. • Marengo, Ill.) in the top of the fourth. Ritter reached on a fielder's choice. Right after Wery reached safely, Haylie Wittman (So. • Kaukauna) sent her home with a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 2-1.

The only other run of the game was recorded when Brianna Davis (Jr. • Oshkosh) hit a double down the left field line to plate Wittman in the top of the seventh.

The Titan defense turned three double plays in the game as the Titans improved their undefeated record for the first time of the day.

In game two, Brianna Bougie (Fr. • Oshkosh) started in the circle and went 4.0 innings, allowing six hits while striking out two on her way to a 3-0 record. Sydney Nemetz (Jr. • Marinette) earned her first save of the season by finishing the final three innings with no runs or hits allowed, two walks and three strikeouts.

In the first inning, Wery recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly to center that scored Cali Divito (Jr. • Inverness, Ill.) and Wittman scored Ritter on a single up to middle.

Sydney Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove, Ill.) reached base in the second inning by singling to right field before recording Oshkosh's third run of the game on a Sarah Hammerton (Fr. • Appleton) triple.

While Bougie was keeping the Sabres off the board, the Titans added three more runs in the fourth inning. Davis doubled to left, sending Abby Garceau (Jr. • Mishicot) across the plate, Rau singled to left center to score Davis, and Rau recorded a run on Ritter's fielder's choice.

Oshkosh's final run of the day in the sixth inning was also a collegiate first for Hammerton as she cranked her first home run with the Titans over to left field fence as the lead off batter that inning.

The Titans will host UW-La Crosse for a doubleheader on Saturday (April 13) with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
