Titans Blank Opponents, Nemetz Tosses No-Hitter

CLERMONT, Fla.- Continuing its unbeaten streak, UW-Oshkosh softball shutout both Union College (N.Y.) and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Monday (March 25) at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Fla.

The Titans (12-0) won by a score of 4-0 over the Dutchwomen (0-6) and 7-0 over the Gusties (4-8).

Morgan Miller (So. • Schaumburg, Ill.) and Brianna Bougie (Fr. • Oshkosh) combined for a four-hit shutout of Union to open the day. Miller (1-0) earned her first win of the season with three strikeouts and Bougie notched her third save while fanning three batters.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings. In the top of the third, Cali Divito (Jr. • Inverness, Ill.) scored on a passed ball.

After three more innings of no runs, Sophie Wery (Jr. • Seymour) made the score 3-0 on a triple to left center to score Hannah Ritter (Sr. • Marengo, Ill.) and Abby Garceau (Jr. • Mishicot).

Sydney Nemetz (Jr. • Marinette) tossed the 13th no-hitter in program history and second of the season against Gustavus Adolphus. In seven innings of work, she struck out five batters for the first solo no-hitter since Courtney Wautier kept SUNY Brockport (N.Y.) hitless in a 4-0 victory on March 20, 2013.

Oshkosh scored its first runs in the third inning again, this time on a Ritter double to center and a Wery sacrifice fly. Garceau and Sarah Hammerton (Fr. • Appleton) scored on the respectively plays. A bases loaded walk to Hammerton made the score 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth before Ritter cleared the bases with a right field double the next at bat and Wery singled through the left side to plate Ritter after the Gusties' relieved their starting pitcher.

The Titans will return to the field on Monday (March 25) to face Kalamazoo College (Mich.) (2-5) and Union at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. central time respectively.
