Titans Sweep Falcons In Outdoor Debut

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team beat Concordia University Wisconsin by scores of 6-4 and 2-0 in its first games outdoors this season at the UW-Oshkosh Softball Park on Friday (March 15).

In the first game of the nonconference doubleheader, Sydney Nemetz (Jr. • Marinette) started in the pitching circle for the Titans (8-0). In her 5.0 innings of work, she struck out seven Falcons (6-6) and went one-two-three in her first three frames. She allowed three runs on five hits for her fourth win of the season.

Oshkosh scored runs early with five in the bottom of the first inning. Hannah Ritter (Sr. • Marengo, Ill.) singled up the middle and advanced to second on the throw home as Abby Garceau (Jr. • Michicot) touched home. Four more singles gave the Titans a 5-0 edge headed into the second inning.

The Titans' sixth run came on an RBI single from Morgan Miller (So. • Schaumburg, Ill.) that scored Brianna Davis (Jr. • Oshkosh).

Concordia Wisconsin scored one run in the fourth inning for its first run of the day. Brianna Bougie (Fr. • Oshkosh) came in as relief in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and no outs, ending Nemetz's outing. She forced a foul pop up to catcher Sophie Wery (Jr. • Seymour) before the Falcons added two runs on a double. She escaped the inning with a groundout, a walk and a strikeout looking.

A Falcon RBI double added another run to the tally in the top of the seventh, but Bougie earned her second save of the season after getting the third and final out.

Mia Crotty (Sr. • Palos Park, Ill.) threw a complete game shutout of Concordia Wisconsin in game two, allowing six hits, while striking out five.

Haylie Wittman (So. • Kaukauna) singled to third in the bottom of the second, sending Wery home to make the score 1-0. The Titans' final run of the day came in the following at-bat, as Miller scored on a Cali Divito (Jr. • Inverness, Ill.) groundout to second base.

The Titans return to action Friday, March 22 for their first games at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. against Millikin University (Ill.) and Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.).
