Titans Defeat Yellowjackets, Duhawks
OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team swept their competition at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Dome on Saturday (Mar. 2), beating UW-Superior 5-1 and Loras College 6-0.
The Titans (3-0) batted first against the Yellowjackets (0-1) and second against the Duhawks (2-3).
Abby Freismuth (Sr. • Fond du lac) started for Oshkosh in the first game against UW-Superior, going four innings with two strikeouts, three hits and a run scored in her second win of the season.
Kendra Baumeister (So. • Burlington) grounded into a double play in the top of the second inning, scoring Morgan Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove, Ill.).
The Yellowjackets sent their only run of the game on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the second.
Oshkosh scored the rest of the runs in the third, sixth and seventh innings. Hannah Ritter (Sr. • Marengo, Ill.) scored Cali Divito (Jr. • Inverness, Ill.) on a groundout to second base, Morgan Rau flew out to center field to send Lizzie Slobodecki (Jr. • Carol Stream, Ill.) home and Sophie Wery (Jr. • Seymour) singled up the middle, recording RBIs as Ritter and Sarah Hammerton (Fr. • Appleton) crossed the plate.
Brianna Bougie (Fr. • Oshkosh) pitched three innings of relief, recording the first save of her career with three strikeouts, no hits and just one walk.
Sydney Nemetz (Jr. • Marinette) threw a complete game shutout of the Duhawks in the second game of the day, striking out eight batters while allowing just three hits and a walk.
With the bases loaded in the first inning, Morgan Rau doubled to center field, scoring Ritter, Sydney Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove) and Abby Garceau (Jr. • Michicot).
In the third inning, Slobodecki and Morgan Rau added runs for Oshkosh on a groundout by Brianna Davis (Jr. • Oshkosh) and Morgan Miller (So. • Schaumburg, Ill.), respectively.
The Titans' final run of the day occurred in the fifth inning as Davis bunted a single to the pitcher, sending Ritter across the plate.
The Titans will face Edgewood College and Ripon College tomorrow at 2 and 4 p.m. to wrap up this weekend's eight-game round robin.
