Titans Picked To Finish Third In WIAC

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team will make its annual return to the diamond after being picked to finish third in the WIAC for the 2024 season.

Head coach Scott Beyer will lead the Titans (36-9, 10-4 WIAC) for the 11th season this spring, and is returning 15 letterwinners from last season, including 2023 All-WIAC First Team members Hannah Ritter (Sr. • Marengo, Ill.), Sydney Nemetz (Jr. • Marinette) and Sophie Wery (Jr. • Seymour). Abby Garceau (Jr. • Mishicot) and Morgan Rau (Sr. • Downers Grove, Ill.) will both return as members of the 2022 First Team. Other notable returners include Zoe Malone (Sr. • Pittsburgh, Pa.), Haylie Wittman (So. • Kaukauna) and Abby Freismuth (Sr. • Fond du Lac).

UW-Whitewater (28-13, 11-3) is the preseason favorite to win the WIAC title, followed by UW-La Crosse (28-15, 9-5). After the Titans, UW-Stevens Point (28-13, 7-7), UW-Platteville (25-16, 7-7), UW-Eau Claire (17-19, 6-8), UW-Stout (11-26, 3-11) and UW-River Falls (15-21, 3-11) round out the rest of the projected finishes.

UW-Oshkosh will begin its season in the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex for a doubleheader against Lakeland University on Feb. 24 and play 22 more games before the 14-game conference play begins on April 13 against UW-La Crosse. The Titans' final nonconference games will take place in Waukesha on April 25 as they take on Carroll University.

After wrapping up the regular season at UW-Eau Claire on May 4, the top-six teams in the WIAC standings will advance to the double-elimination WIAC Tournament that will be held May 9-12 at the No. 1 seed. The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic NCAA bid.
