Six Titans Earn All-WIAC Honors

MADISON, Wis.—Six members of the UW-Oshkosh Titans softball squad earned All-WIAC honors following the 2023 season.

Receiving First Team All-WIAC Honors are Gabby Buikema, Maddie Fink, Sydney Nemetz, Hannah Ritter, and Sophie Wery. Ana Iliopoulos was named to the All-Sportsmanship team for the Titans.

Repeating on the All-WIAC First Team is Hannah Ritter (2021, 2022) and Maddie Fink (2021 Pitcher of the Year), and Sydney Nemetz (2022).

Fink and Sophie Wery were honorable mentions last season for the Titans.

Buikema, a senior outfielder from Chicago, Illinois, recorded a .373 batting average for the Titans this season which included 41 hits, 34 runs, 29 RBIs, six doubles, and four stolen bases. Buikema recorded an on-base percentage of .458 and a slugging percentage of .518. Buikema is seventh in the conference for RBIs and fifth for walks.

Fink, a senior pitcher from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, led the Titans with an ERA of 1.31 this season. Fink allowed 29 runs to be scored (25 earned) and struck out 96 batters. Fink held opposing batters to a batting average of. 195 and sat at number two in the conference statistics as of May 15, 2023. Fink led the conference in complete games (17) and shutouts at seven.

Nemetz, a sophomore pitcher from Marinette, Wisconsin, had an ERA of 1.73 this season. Nemetz recorded 10 complete games this season, struck out 95 batters, and held opposing batters to a batting average of .223.

Ritter, a senior first basemen from Marengo, Illinois, led the conference with a batting average of .489. Ritter scored 29 runs for the Titans, had 66 hits, 20 RBIs, an on-base percentage .524 and a slugging percentage of .578. Ritter recorded a fielding percentage of .985. In the conference tournament game against UW-Stevens Point, Ritter became the All-Time Career Hits leader with 198 career hits.

Wery, the sophomore catcher from Seymour, Wisconsin, has recorded 46 hits, 33 runs, 15 doubles, nine home runs, and 46 RBIs this season for the Titans. Wery has a slugging percentage of .720 and an on-base percentage of .431. Wery holds top-10 spots in the WIAC for runs, hits, doubles, and is tied for second for most home runs this season. Wery leads the WIAC in RBIs and is one of five players in the league to have a fielding percentage of 1.000.

Iliopoulos, a senior infielder/pitcher from Morton Grove, Illinois, represents the Titans on All-Sportsmanship team. Iliopoulos had 23 hits and 11 runs for the Titans this season with 14 RBIs.

The Titans will host one of the regional sites for the 2023 NCAA Division III Softball Championships, May 18-20.
