Ritter Breaks School Record for Career Hits; Titans Split at WIAC Tournament

WHITEWATER, Wis.—Hannah Ritter needed five hits to break the UW-Oshkosh Titans Softball school for most career hits as the Titans split action at the WIAC Tournament on Friday, May 12.

Ritter was credited six hits to reset the record at 198 hits in just three full seasons, breaking the 23-year old record set by Robin Schmidt (1997-2000).

The Titans (34-7) split action on the second day of the WIAC tournament, defeating UW-Platteville 9-0 in the first game. The Titans fell to UW-Stevens Point 8-6 in the second game and were eliminated from the tournament.

The Titans have recorded 13 or more shutouts since the 2001 season twice other times: 13-2006; 16-2007.

The Titans will wait to see if they get an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, beginning May 19. The NCAA selection show is set to air at 12 p.m. CT (1 p.m. ET).

Platteville Recap

A bunt single from Ritter in the first inning brought home Abby Garceau for the first run of the day. Gabby Buikema and Ritter added two runs in the first, scoring on wild pitches.

The Titans scored six runs off six hits in fifth inning to win their 13th shutout of the season. Sophie Wery singled through the left side as Ritter and Buikema scored for the Titans. Zoe Malone hit a sacrifice fly as Lizzie Slobodecki scored. Brianna Davis doubled to left-center field to bring home Haylie Wittman for the seventh run of the day.  Davis scored on a wild pitch before Morgan Rau scored off of Garceau's RBI single to center field.

In the pitcher's circle for the Titans, Maddie Fink (17-2) held the Pioneers to two hits, issued one walk, and recorded three strikeouts.

Ritter went three-for-three at the plate with two runs. Garceau went two-for-four at the plate with one run. Wery went one-for-two with two RBIs while Wittman went three-for-three at the plate with one run.

Stevens Point Recap

The Pointers scored the first run of the second game to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Buikema hit an RBI single to left field as Rau scored the first Titans run of the day. Wery doubled down the left field line to bring home Buikema and Ana Iliopoulos for the Titans.

The Pointers hit a three-run home run in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead over the Titans.

Garceau scored on Ritter's RBI single in the fourth inning to tie the game at four. Wery scored on Malone's RBI single as the Titans took a 5-4 lead to end the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, Iliopoulos scored the final run of the game for the Titans. Iliopoulos scored off of Garceau's RBI single up the middle.

The Pointers scored one run in the sixth inning to trim the Titans lead to one before taking the lead in the seventh inning with three runs on two hits.

In the pitcher's circle for the Titans, Sydney Nemetz (14-4) went four innings, struck out four, issued one walk, and allowed four hits.

Garceau was four-for-five at the plate in the second game to lead the team with four hits. Ritter recorded three hits with four plate appearances. Malone and Iliopoulos went two-for-three at the plate. Wery recorded her second straight game with two RBIs and her 13th game this season with two or more RBIs.
