Crotty Chosen As WIAC Softball Athlete Of The Week
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named UW-Oshkosh freshman Mia Crotty as one of its two Kwik Trip Softball Athletes of the Week for games played March 15-21.
Crotty was selected as the conference's top pitcher for the week while UW-Eau Claire utility player Bailee Sillman was chosen as the league's top position player.
Crotty worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the complete-game win during UW-Oshkosh's 2-1 victory over nationally ranked Carroll University on March 20 in Waukesha.
Crotty didn't allow a runner in scoring position from the third through sixth innings, but Carroll University mounted a rally with two outs in the last of the seventh frame on a pair of singles and a hit batter. However, Crotty induced an infield popup to end the game.
Crotty limited the Pioneers to six hits – all singles – and one walk with three strikeouts on just 69 pitches.
Carroll University, which had its school-record 13-game winning streak snapped with the defeat, entered the day ranked 25th in the NCAA Division III by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Pioneers posted a 10-inning 2-1 victory over the Titans in the first game of the doubleheader.
