Titans Sweep WIAC Softball Athlete Of The Week Citations

UW-Oshkosh swept the WIAC Kwik Trip Softball Athlete of the Week awards as pitcher Madelyn Fink and third baseman Ana Iliopoulos were honored for their efforts in games played Feb. 17-23.

Fink was named the conference's top pitcher for the week while Iliopoulos was chosen as the league's top position player.

Fink, a first-year transfer from Madison College, earned the save in the opener and the victory in the nightcap as UW-Oshkosh began its 2020 season with a doubleheader sweep of Marian University on Feb. 21 at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex.

Fink pitched a total of six innings in the two contests, allowing just two runs (one earned) and four hits with eight strikeouts. All four of her hits allowed were singles.

UW-Oshkosh won the first game, 10-9, as Fink protected the Titans' victory with her seventh-inning pitching performance. Fink inherited a 10-8 lead and earned the save by allowing one run and three hits during her lone inning of work.

In the second game, Fink pitched all five innings of UW-Oshkosh's 10-1 victory. She allowed just one hit to the Sabres, a second-inning single by Izzy Gonzalez. Fink concluded her complete-game outing with seven strikeouts and two walks. Marian University scored its lone run in the third inning.

Iliopoulos, a first-year transfer from the University of South Dakota, finished the doubleheader 5-for-7 at the plate with two doubles, eight runs batted in and two runs scored.

UW-Oshkosh won the first game, 10-9, as Iliopoulos put the Titans in front 10-8 with her two-out, bases-loaded double in the bottom of the sixth inning. She had two other hits in the contest, including a first-inning two-run single.

In the second game, Iliopoulos had two hits and three runs batted in as UW-Oshkosh won 10-1 in five innings. Iliopoulos put the Titans ahead 6-0 with her second-inning groundout and 10-1 with her third-inning two-run double.
