Titans Post One Close Win, One Blowout Victory

UW-Oshkosh completed a 4-0 weekend with softball wins over Simpson College (Iowa) and Lakeland College on Sunday (March 2) in Marquette, Mich.

The Titans used a 4-for-4 game by Katie Koepsel to top previously unbeaten Simpson, 4-3. UW-Oshkosh then booked a nine-run inning on the way to its 16-2 victory against Lakeland.

The first four Titans reached base against the Storm. Koepsel gained a 1-0 lead with her double down the third-base line. Tess Fadness followed with an RBI single.

UW-Oshkosh's advantage was cut to 2-1 during the second inning. The score remained that way until the fourth, when Koepsel hit an infield chopper that brought home Kassie Krueger.

Simpson tied the contest, 3-3, after run-scoring singles by Emma Negrete and Stacie Brown during the fifth. The Titans responded in the bottom half, with Krueger ripping a single up the middle that made it 4-3.

Jill Vondrak was the winning pitcher with three earned runs and two strikeouts in the complete game. Kaytlyn Ernst (loss) also went the distance, yielding four ER with six K.

In the victory over Lakeland, Lindsey Luedke was the offensive star. After marking RBI singles in the first and second frames, Luedke blasted a two-run homer during the third.

UW-Oshkosh's nine-run third also featured a two-run single by Koepsel and a run-scoring double from Stephanie Miller.

During the second inning, Hayden Krueger launched a towering three-run homer to centerfield that took a 5-2 lead.

Lakeland got on the board first with a two-run double by Kaylee Ninneman in the opening inning. Alison Bauer finished with two of the Muskies' seven base hits.

Sara Brunlieb (win) went the full five innings, allowing two ER with one walk. The loss fell on Elizabeth Zimmerman, who was charged with four ER over 2.1 frames. Melissa Noll pitched the next 1.1 innings and allowed six ER for Lakeland.

UW-Oshkosh finished the weekend with a .481 batting average and a 38-7 scoring margin. Luedke was named Tournament MVP, while Koepsel and Haley Bayreuther earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
