Titans Reach 20 Wins With Pair Of Comebacks

Tess Fadness (Jr. • Eau Claire) posted five hits in UW-Oshkosh's sweep of UW-Platteville on Wednesday (April 24) at YP.com Softball Park.

The Titans (20-6/7-1 WIAC) scored five times after the fifth inning to take the opener, 6-2. Jill Vondrak (Jr. • Westchester, Ill.) then recorded the pitching victory and the winning RBI in a 7-4 decision.

UW-Oshkosh now owns a 16-2 record in its last 18 games.

The Pioneers' (8-14/2-8 WIAC) only scoring in game one came via the long ball. Haley Salazar knocked one out in the second inning and Colleen Lowe sent one over the fence during the fourth.

Fadness hammered a double in the opening frame for UW-Oshkosh's first run. Then in the fifth, a sacrifice bunt turned into a three-base throwing error that tied the score at 2. Katie Koepsel (So. • Oak Creek) continued the inning with a RBI double, and a run-scoring single from Emily Mallek (So. • Plover) made it 4-2.

The Titans tacked on two more with Koepsel's triple into the gap and Fadness' single during the sixth.

Courtney Wautier (Sr. • Brussels) had no walks while striking out five in the seven-inning victory. Jeni Freiburger took the loss, allowing five earned runs on nine hits.

In the nightcap, the Titans faced an even larger deficit after UW-Platteville got another home run from Lowe. This time, her three-run shot gave the Pioneers a 4-1 edge in the third.

Hayden Krueger (Fr. • Bristol), who hit three homers on Sunday, got the comeback started. During the fifth, she lifted a high fly to center that carried over the fence for a two-run dinger.

It was déjà vu in the sixth, as UW-Oshkosh tied the game when its bunt was thrown away for a three-base error. Vondrak came up later and smacked a single up the middle to take the lead. Kaelyn Hogan (Sr. • Greendale) put the exclamation point on the win with her two-run blast over the left-field wall.

Vondrak tossed a complete game, allowing 11 hits and no walks with three K. The defeat went to Melissa Anderson after she totaled six ER and eight K over six frames.

UW-Oshkosh is scheduled to host UW-Stevens Point on Thursday (April 25).
