Titans Club Their Way To Two Victories

UW-Oshkosh racked up 17 runs during softball wins over Grinnell College (Iowa) and Westminster College (Mo.) on Saturday (April 6) in Grinnell, Iowa.

The Titans (11-5) used 11 strikeouts from Courtney Wautier (Sr. • Brussels) to blank Grinnell, 7-0. UW-Oshkosh then posted a five-run second inning during its 10-4 decision over Westminster.

In the opener, Katie Koepsel (So • Oak Creek) smashed a two-run double in the opening frame. She scored on a double steal attempt to gain the 3-0 lead.

Hayden Krueger (Fr. • Bristol), who had three hits on the day, added a run-scoring double in the second inning. UW-Oshkosh concluded its scoring with Kaelyn Hogan's (Sr. • Greendale) two-run single up the middle during the seventh. Hogan also finished with three hits.

Wautier fired six innings, allowing just three hits and one walk. The loss fell on Jennifer Fulton, who was charged with five earned runs in seven frames.

Summer Wilke totaled two of Grinnell's three hits, while Robin Campbell marked one.

UW-Oshkosh faced an early deficit in game two after Westminster (5-4) went ahead on a fielding error. The Titans' response featured three runs scoring on errors, one on a walk and another on a hit-by-pitch.

Westminster pulled within 5-3 during the bottom of the second thanks to a RBI double from Lori Jones and a run-scoring single by Emily Kesel.

Kassie Krueger (Jr. • Plover) and Hayden Krueger booked RBI singles in the sixth inning to expand the margin. Tess Fadness (Jr. • Eau Claire) delivered the final blow with a two-run single to center that made it 10-3.

Jill Vondrak (Jr. • Westchester, Ill.) posted two hits at the plate while earning the pitching victory. She threw five innings, surrendering two earned runs on seven hits.

Westminster's losing pitcher was Sarah Schneider, after she allowed five runs in three frames. Brittany Lee tossed the final four innings and yielded one ER on nine hits.

UW-Oshkosh has two more games at the Pioneer Invitational on Sunday (April 7).
