Titans Split To Finish 6-4 In Florida

UW-Oshkosh pulled out a 3-2 victory over Hamilton College (N.Y.) after dropping a 4-0 softball game to UW-Superior on Friday (March 22) in Cape Coral, Fla. The Titans (9-5) won five of their last six games to conclude the spring trip with a 6-4 record.

Against Hamilton, the Titans used a crazy play to score in the third inning. Hayden Krueger (Fr. • Bristol) drew a walk, and a wild pitch allowed her to reach second base. Kaelyn Hogan (Sr. • Greendale) scored all the way from second while the Continentals tried to get Krueger out.

Tess Fadness (Jr. • Eau Claire) doubled with one out in the fourth frame. Taylor Loew (Fr. • Burnett) then gave the Titans a 2-0 lead with her RBI single up the middle.

Hamilton (3-7) tied the score in the sixth with a double from Olivia Gozdz and a single by Sam Miller.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Fadness connected for a long home run to center that took a 3-2 lead.

Courtney Wautier (Sr. • Brussels) put two runners on in the seventh before posting a strikeout for the complete game. She fanned 10 while improving her record to 7-1.

Kelly Leonard accepted the loss, allowing three earned runs in six frames.

UW-Oshkosh couldn't get its offense started in the defeat to UW-Superior (8-8). The only hits for the Titans were a single by Katie Koepsel (So • Oak Creek) in the first and a double by Krueger in the seventh.

Nicolle Gross pitched seven stellar innings, allowing just two hits with no walks.

The Yellowjackets scored once in each of the fourth, fifth, six and seventh frames. Ashley Martin did some damage with her solo homer in the fifth and a triple off the wall during the third.

UW-Superior also scored on singles from Kelly Carlson and Elle Niemela. Carlson totaled three of her team's eight hits.

Melissa Gutsmiedl (Fr. • Winneconne) allowed one earned run in five innings (5 K) for the loss.

UW-Oshkosh now waits for favorable weather before it can begin its Wisconsin schedule.
