Titans Allow Just Two Runs In Wins Over Spartans, Duhawks

Pitchers Courtney Wautier and Melissa Gutsmiedl combined to allow just two runs as UW-Oshkosh defeated the University of Dubuque (Iowa) and Loras College (Iowa) on Sunday (Feb. 24) in Marquette, Mich.

Wautier scattered six hits and struck out nine batters to help UW-Oshkosh (3-1) to a 2-1 victory over the University of Dubuque (1-2). Gutsmiedl then spread five hits and seven strikeouts over six innings to the assist the Titans' 6-1 triumph against Loras College (1-3).

UW-Oshkosh was held to six hits in its win over the University of Dubuque, but doubles by Hayden Krueger in the first inning and Emily Mallek in the second provided the majority of the damage.

Hayden Krueger led off the first inning inning with a double and then stole third base. She scored on an infield groundout by Kassie Krueger.

In the second innng, Hillary Trebiatowski opened with a walk. She moved to second base on a bunt by Lindsey Luedke and later scored on a double by Mallek.

The University of Dubuque was held scoreless until Amber Meyer led off the sixth inning with a home run.

Luedke doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth to account for a third of UW-Oshkosh's hit total. Meyer and Caitlin Aulwes each had two hits for the Spartans.

Starter Dionna Jensen took the loss for the University of Dubuque. She allowed two runs and four hits during four innings of work. Susan Danielewski closed the contest by yielding two hits over the fifth and sixth frames.

Against Loras College, UW-Oshkosh scored five of its six runs in the first and second innings.

The Titans scored two runs on two hits and two errors in the first inning. Hayden Krueger led off the inning with a single and scored two batters later on an infield error. Tess Fadness, who reached on the error, scored on a double by Luedke.

UW-Oshkosh tallied three runs on one hit and one error in the second inning. The Titans scored on a single by Hayden Krueger, an error and an infield groundout from Kassie Krueger.

UW-Oshkosh took advantage of another Loras College error in the sixth inning and scored its final run off a single by Fadness.

The Duhawks marked their only run of the contest in the second inning. Loras College had two hits in the period, including a run-scoring single by Bridget Bryant.

UW-Oshkosh compiled seven hits, including three by Hayden Krueger. Five players had one hit each for Loras College, which left 10 runners on base.

Wautier followed Gutsmiedl's six innings of work by striking out three of the four batters she faced in the seventh inning.

The pitching loss went to Holly Klein. She allowed five runs and three hits in four innings. Makaila Haase pitched the final two innings and allowed one run on four hits.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it battles Polytechnic Institute of New York University and The College of Wooster (Ohio) on March 17 in Fort Myers, Fla.
