Eagles Defeat Titans Twice

Katie Keyes went 6-for-6 at the plate to give UW-La Crosse two softball wins over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (April 14) at YP.com Softball Park.

The Eagles (18-7/3-3 WIAC) took the first contest, 3-2, after Kelli Anderson launched a two-run homer during the seventh inning. UW-Oshkosh (15-13/0-4 WIAC) couldn't overcome seven wild pitches in an 8-2 nightcap defeat.

Each team tallied once in the day's opening frame. After Keyes dropped down a bunt single, Hailey Kunz was hit by a pitch to force home one run. The Titans equaled the score in the bottom half when Emily Mallek (Fr. • Plover) drilled a solo homer to left field.

UW-Oshkosh finally put together some offense in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Hillary Trebiatowski (Jr. • Plover) hit a line drive that snuck under the right fielder's glove for a RBI single.

The Titans had a great chance to score in the sixth, putting runners on first and third with nobody out. However, a caught stealing, line out and foul out ended that threat.

Keyes singled to begin the seventh inning and scored on Anderson's long fly over the left-field wall. Lacey Probst took the win after pitching the last four innings and allowing one run, while Courtney Wautier (Jr. • Brussels) surrendered two earned runs with 10 strikeouts in a complete-game defeat.

UW-La Crosse clinched the nightcap with five runs in the third inning and two in the second. The first two tallies scored on a passed ball and a groundout.

During the third frame, UW-La Crosse sent 11 batters to the plate. Three of them walked before advancing on a trio of wild pitches. The big hit was a two-run double by Keyes that gave the Eagles a 5-1 cushion.

The Titans registered three hits in both the third and fourth innings, scoring once in each. Kassie Krueger (So. • Plover) marked the first RBI with her double into the gap. Hayley Freimuth (Sr. • Combined Locks), who had three hits in the game, singled home one more to make it 7-2.

Probst started and got the victory with 3.1 innings of two-run ball. Lauren Beres tossed the final 3.2 frames while yielding just two hits. The loss fell on Julie Sweeney (Fr. • Arlington Heights, Ill.), who was charged with five earned runs in 2.1 innings.

UW-Oshkosh continues its eight-game homestand when it hosts UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday (April 17).
