Titan Bats Come Alive To Sweep Pointers

Kassie Krueger (So. • Plover) and Emily Miskoski (Fr. • Stevens Point) each delivered a clutch two-out hit during UW-Oshkosh's sweep over the UW-Stevens Point women's softball team on Tuesday (April 17) at YP.com Softball Park.

The Titans (17-13/2-4 WIAC) overcame a three-run deficit in their final at-bat with Krueger's triple for a 5-4 victory. Miskoski then crushed a three-run homer in the nightcap to pull away for a 10-3 triumph.

UW-Stevens Point (11-19/1-9 WIAC) had its first three hitters reach base during game one. Courtney Wautier (Jr. • Brussels) was able to get out of the inning with just one run allowed. The Pointers again loaded the bases in the third frame, and this time a fielding error let three runs score for the 4-1 margin.

After totaling three hits in the opening five innings, the Titans erupted for five in the sixth frame. Katie Koepsel (Fr. • Oak Creek) blasted a solo homer into the strong wind to lead off. Following a pair of singles, Krueger drilled her two-run triple into the right-centerfield gap to take a 5-4 lead.

Wautier (win) pitched all seven innings and yielded one earned run with six strikeouts. The loss went to Michelle Jones, who surrendered three earned runs on eight hits over six frames.

UW-Oshkosh's offense continued its surge by tallying in the first four innings of the nightcap. With the bases loaded in the first, Demi Kastein (So. • Waupun) ripped a two-run single to go in front. Emily Mallek (Fr. • Plover) had three hits in the contest, as her run-scoring single made it 3-1 during the second.

Katie Krueger and Kelly Arndt posted RBI for the Pointers in the third inning to tie the score at 3. Julie Sweeney (Fr. • Arlington Heights, Ill.) then entered to pitch and bat cleanup. She singled during the bottom half and came home on Miskoski's three-run shot over the left-field wall.

Leading 7-3, the Titans put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth frame. Sweeney capped her outstanding day with a two-run homer to go ahead, 9-3. On the mound, Sweeney gave up just one hit over five innings for the victory.

Sara Babbitts took the loss after watching six unearned runs cross the plate in three innings. Bekah Rennicke tossed the final three frames and allowed four runs.
