Titans, Green Knights Trade Decisions

Tess Fadness (So. • Eau Claire) and Katie Koepsel (Fr. • Oak Creek) homered as UW-Oshkosh took one of two softball games against St. Norbert College on Wednesday (April 4) in De Pere.

The Titans (12-8) scored in all but one inning to post a 10-2 opener victory. The second contest belonged to Shannen Schmidt, who pitched a three-hit shutout in the 1-0 decision.

Fadness started the day with a bang, launching a two-run homer in the first inning. After a Emily Miskoski (Fr. • Stevens Point) RBI double during the second frame, Koepsel connected for a three-run shot that made it 6-0 in the third.

In the fourth, Brittany Narges singled and scored to put the Green Knights (5-11) on the board. Samantha Gross added a run-scoring single to pull her squad within 7-2.

UW-Oshkosh put the game away with a two-run double by Fadness during the sixth. Courtney Wautier (Jr. • Brussels) gained the complete-game win, striking out six with one earned run over six innings. Morgan Rusch yielded eight ER on 13 hits for the loss.

St. Norbert tallied the lone run of the nightcap during the first frame. Steph Brunette marked a leadoff single and advanced on a sacrifice. With two outs, Morgan Buboltz ripped a single to go ahead, 1-0.

Schmidt sent the Titans down 1-2-3 during the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. UW-Oshkosh finally threatened with the help of a hit batter and single in the seventh. With the tying run on second base, Hayley Freimuth (Sr. • Combined Locks) grounded out to end the contest.

Julie Sweeney (Fr. • Arlington Heights, Ill.) took the hard-luck defeat, allowing four hits with five strikeouts in six frames. UW-Oshkosh's hitting performances for the day featured three hits by both Fadness and Kassie Krueger (So. • Plover).

UW-Oshkosh has its home opener against Ripon College on Friday (April 6) at YP.com Softball Park.
