Titans Bolt Past Blue Angels

UW-Oshkosh scored in every inning to post a nine-game winning streak as it captured both games of a women's softball doubleheader with Mount Mary College on Monday (March 21) in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Titans (9-1) counted a 12-1 victory in the opener and a 15-0 decision in game two. UW-Oshkosh has now outscored its opponents by a 46-1 margin during the last four contests. Tess Fadness (Fr. • Eau Claire) led the batting showcase with seven hits, five runs scored and four RBI.

Taking off right away, the Titans tallied four runs in the first inning and six in the second frame of the opener. Fadness drove in two with a single, while Hayley Freimuth (Jr. • Combined Locks) booked a run-scoring hit in each inning. UW-Oshkosh also touched the plate on two errors, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

The Blue Angels (0-2) did not register a hit until there were two outs in the fourth frame. During the fifth, Malinda Henning led off with a double. Mary Holmberg drove her in with a two-bagger, cutting the deficit to 12-1. The game was final after the top of the frame due to the Titans' substantial lead.

Tatum Schultz (So. • Oshkosh) earned the win, yielding just one hit while striking out six over four innings. Chantal Tillman took the complete-game loss after walking six and allowing six earned runs.

During the nightcap, the Titans scored five times in both the first and fifth innings. The opening frame included RBI from Amanda Schroeder (So. • Kaukauna), Marti Meyer (Jr. • Verona) and Sydnee Wyss (Sr. • Monroe). An infield single by Schroder in the second expanded the cushion to 7-0.

Freimuth kept her stellar day going with run-scoring singles in the third and fourth innings. During the third and fifth frames, Fadness tacked on a pair of RBI singles. The Titans marked their final two scores of the contest on a groundout and a double play.

UW-Oshkosh's 13 base hits were all singles, but it also took advantage of seven Mount Mary errors. Elizabeth Greatens (Fr. • Green Bay) tossed the first three innings, striking out four, to get the win. Demi Kastein (Fr. • Waupun) finished the last two frames and allowed just one base runner.

The Blue Angels totaled three hits – a double by Emily Barker in the third, a single by Lara Lijewski in the third and Malinda Henning's fourth-inning single. Shanae Payne (loss) pitched the entire game, allowing four ER on 13 hits and six walks.

UW-Oshkosh will look to keep rolling against The College of Wooster (Ohio) on Wednesday (March 23) in Cape Coral, Fla.
