Titans Victorious In Duel With Green Knights

UW-Oshkosh swept a doubleheader for the first time in eight tries as it topped St. Norbert College twice on Monday (April 18) at YP.com Softball Park. The Titans (18-8) had split each of their past seven doubleheaders.

In the opener, UW-Oshkosh had a trio of three-run frames to come back for a 9-2 victory. Tatum Schultz (So. • Oshkosh) got her eighth win of the year after tossing a four-hitter in the 3-2 nightcap triumph.

St. Norbert College (13-12) entered the day with an eight-game winning streak, and it began the day with two runs in the first inning. The Green Knights blasted three doubles, with Morgan Buboltz delivering the two-run hit for an early lead.

During the second frame, the Titans chipped away with a walk and two singles. Hayley Freimuth (Jr. • Combined Locks) smacked a two-run single to center to tie the contest. UW-Oshkosh added three of its next four runs on errors as it obtained a 6-2 cushion in the third inning.

Padding their stats, Freimuth and Marti Meyer (Jr. • Verona) each drove home one during the fifth. Amanda Schroeder (So. • Kaukauna) finished with a pair of run-scoring singles, while Tess Fadness (Fr. • Eau Claire) also compiled two of the Titans' eight hits.

St. Norbert could only muster two runs on 10 hits against Courtney Wautier (So. • Brussels), who totaled seven strikeouts and no walks. Steph Brunette and Abby Van Straten each marked a three-hit game. The loss fell on Kari Corbeille after she allowed five earned runs over six innings.

Each squad pushed across one run during the opening frame of the nightcap. Following a Brittany Narges double, she scored on a wild pitch. The Titans then equaled it at 1-1 with Julia Burns' (Jr. • Verona) sacrifice fly.

The Green Knights went hitless for the next three innings. UW-Oshkosh was also quiet, until it got two singles to open the fifth. With one out, Jamie Braden (Sr. • Lake Villa, Ill.) ripped a double to centerfield that scored a pair of Titans.

Jessica Kropp, who finished with two of her team's four hits, crushed a solo homer in the seventh to shrink the deficit. UW-Oshkosh ended up with two hits apiece by Braden, Freimuth and Sydnee Wyss (Sr. • Monroe).

Schultz yielded just one earned run as she walked one and punched out four. Kayla Krueger (loss) assured that the doubleheader featured the minimum of four total pitchers as she surrendered three earned runs in six innings.

The Titans make a trip to the University of Chicago (Ill.) on Tuesday (April 19).
