Braden, Wyss Receive All-WIAC First Team Recognition

UW-Oshkosh had two members of its women's softball squad earn All-WIAC first-team honors as catcher Jamie Braden (Sr. • Lake Villa, Ill.) and shortstop Sydnee Wyss (Sr. • Monroe) gained the distinction from a vote of the league's nine head coaches.

Braden and Wyss were the top two hitters for the Titans this year. Wyss started all 38 games and led the WIAC with a .436 batting average. Appearing in 37 contests, Braden hit .393 with a team-high 35 runs batted in.

Wyss also topped the conference in hits (58) and runs scored (38) while ranking fourth in stolen bases with 10. She compiled seven doubles, two triples, one home run and 16 runs batted in. During a win over Edgewood College, Wyss went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two runs batted in. She also notched four hits in a game against St. Thomas University (Fla.) and UW-River Falls.

A first-team selection for the third straight year, Wyss was extremely consistent. In 2010, she hit .343 with four home runs, 41 runs scored and 28 runs batted in. Her 2009 campaign featured a .362 batting average, nine doubles and 27 runs scored. During a career that featured starts in all 161 games, Wyss compiled 195 hits, 34 doubles, nine homers, seven triples and 78 runs batted in. Her ability as a leadoff batter was highlighted in her 133 runs, 34 stolen bases and .421 on-base percentage.

In addition to listing fifth in the league for runs batted in, Braden led UW-Oshkosh with 14 walks. She posted a .473 on-base percentage to go along with six doubles and two home runs. Recording multiple runs batted in on 10 occasions, Braden knocked in four runs during victories over both Hamilton College (N.Y.) and St. Thomas University. She smacked six hits with four runs batted in as the Titans split a doubleheader with UW-Superior. In UW-Oshkosh's win over UW-Stout, Braden booked four hits and three runs batted in.

Last season, Braden started 22 of the 33 games that she played in. She obtained a .238 batting average with four doubles, one home run and 15 runs batted in. Braden finishes her Titan career with a .337 average, 10 doubles, three home runs and 50 runs batted in.

UW-Oshkosh pitcher Courtney Wautier (So. • Brussels) was named to the team as a honorable mention selection.

Wautier pitched in 27 of her team's 38 contests this season. She started 21 times and threw 13 complete games. Totaling a 2.61 earned run average, Wautier posted nine wins, three saves and two shutouts. Her 139.2 innings featured 101 strikeouts and just 23 walks. During an early-season victory over St. Joseph's College (Maine), Wautier allowed just one hit while striking out seven batters. She later tossed seven shutout innings with four striekouts against UW-Whitewater.

Conference champion UW-River Falls owned both the Pitcher of the Year (Rose Tusa) and Coach of the Year (Jody Gabriel). Jenna Ahnen of UW-La Crosse was selected as the Position Player of the Year, while UW-Whitewater's Jessica Stang received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete award.
