Titans’ Dominant Pitching Blanks Continentals, Monks

UW-Oshkosh allowed just three hits in 12 innings to post a pair of shutout women's softball victories over Hamilton College (N.Y.) and St. Joseph's College (Maine) on Saturday (March 19) in Cape Coral, Fla.

Courtney Wautier (So. • Brussels) tossed a one-hitter, striking out seven in the Titans' 3-0 win over the Monks. St. Joseph's College (7-3) got its lone hit, an infield single, from Danyelle Shufelt to lead off the contest. The first game of the day saw Kaelyn Hogan (So. • Greendale) and Jamie Braden (Sr. • Lake Villa, Ill.) each mark four hits in UW-Oshkosh's 16-0 demolition of Hamilton College (1-8).

The Titans (7-1), who have now won seven straight games, notched a 12-0 lead after three innings against the Continentals. Braden recorded an RBI single in both the first and second frames, while Julia Burns (Jr. • Verona) blasted a two-run triple to go ahead, 5-0.

Seven runs came in during the third frame, including two on Hogan's double. Braden tacked on a run-scoring double after RBI singles from Marti Meyer (Jr. • Verona) and Sydnee Wyss (Sr. • Monroe). The Titans used five hits, one error and a wild pitch to account for the damage.

Braden drove in a run for the fourth consecutive inning when she walked during the fourth. UW-Oshkosh added its last three runs on a passed ball, a fly out and a Hogan single.

The Titans finished with 17 hits, while Hamilton College marked two – singles by Amy Appel and Amanda Nardi. Elizabeth Greatens (Fr. • Green Bay) got the win for her three scoreless innings before Demi Kastein (Fr. • Waupun) struck out four in the last two frames.

Hamilton College's pitching loss went to Chelsea Merritt, who allowed 10 earned runs in 2.1 innings. Summer Bottini recorded the final six outs and surrendered three ER.

Game two featured single tallies by UW-Oshkosh in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Wyss singled and stole second before scoring the contest's first run on Hogan's double. The margin then stretched to 3-0 when Hayley Freimuth (Jr. • Combined Locks) doubled and Braden singled to each drive in one run.

The Titans committed three errors, but they outhit the Monks, 7-1. Rae-Marie Copan took the complete-game loss after allowing two ER and striking out six over seven frames.

UW-Oshkosh takes the field against Mount Mary College on Monday (March 21) in Fort Myers, Fla.
