Tornow Receives All-America First Team Recognition

Whitney Tornow (Sr. • Neenah) is one of 15 players to earn NCAA Division III All-America First Team honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Tornow, who made the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America Second Team last year, became just the second player in UW-Oshkosh softball history to earn first-team recognition. The Titans also had pitcher Ronessa Stampfli gain the accolade in 2007. Tornow (OF) capped her collegiate career by breaking several of her own school records in 2010, including a .500 batting average, 40 walks and a .617 on-base percentage.

Starting all 43 contests, Tornow blasted eight home runs, 19 doubles and two triples. She also scored 42 times, drove in 45 runs and stole eight bases. Those numbers allowed her to become UW-Oshkosh's all-time leader in batting average (.420), slugging percentage (.777), home runs (31), runs batted in (146), runs scored (122), walks (89) and stolen bases (28). With 152 games played, Tornow also ranks second in school history with 185 hits, 48 doubles and eight triples.

Tornow had eight games this season in which she recorded three or more hits, including six consecutive contests in April. During that streak, she went 19-for-22, an .864 batting average. Her career day came against UW-Platteville, when Tornow tallied six hits, six runs scored and 11 RBI during a doubleheader sweep. She also marked seven hits, three runs and five RBI to earn a pair of victories against Macalester College (Minn.) and Grinnell College (Iowa). Tornow compiled six hits, scored four times and drove home five runs during twinbills with both UW-La Crosse and the University of Chicago (Ill.).

In 2009, Tornow batted .482 with 12 home runs and 45 runs batted in. She also marked 28 runs, 10 doubles, 10 stolen bases and a .936 slugging percentage in 37 games. Her 2008 campaign featured a .429 batting average, seven homers and 36 RBI in 27 games. Tornow's freshman season of 2007 saw her hit .293 with four home runs and 20 RBI while playing in 45 contests.
