Men's Cross Country Program Recognized For Academic Performance

The UW-Oshkosh men's cross country program continued its success in the classroom to earn an All-Academic award from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the fifth consecutive year.

UW-Oshkosh compiled a 3.24 cumulative grade-point-average during the 2021 fall semester and was one of 137 NCAA Division III schools recognized for ending the session with a GPA of 3.10 or higher.

Stevens Institute of Technology (N.J.) compiled a Division III-leading 3.798 GPA last fall while Massachusetts Institute of Technology followed at 3.784, Bowdoin College (Maine) at 3.776, Emory University (Ga.) at 3.728 and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Calif.) at 3.721.

In addition to UW-Oshkosh, other Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference programs cited for their strong GPA were UW-Eau Claire at 3.51, UW-Stout at 3.415, UW-La Crosse at 3.29, UW-River Falls at 3.234 and UW-Whitewater at 3.182.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Calif.) was named the Division III Scholar Team of the Year. The Sagehens, who registered a 3.69 GPA, won the team title at the NCAA Championship held this past November in Louisville, Ky.

UW-Oshkosh also had junior Mitchell Bradford and seniors Cody Chadwick and Andrew George named All-Academic Athletes by the USTFCCCA.

Bradford possesses a 3.96 cumulative GPA as a political science major. He finished 79th at the Division III Championship, 17th at the Division III North Regional and 17th at the WIAC Championship last fall. Bradford is a graduate of Oswego (Ill.) High School.

Chadwick owns a 3.37 cumulative GPA as a business finance major. He placed 181st at the Division III Championship, 20th at the Division III North Regional and 10th at the WIAC Championship last fall. Chadwick earned All-America honors with his 21st-place finish at the 2019 Division III Championship. The Poynette High School graduate also was an USTFCCCA All-Academic selection in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

George holds a 3.44 cumulative GPA as a major in both secondary education & broadfield social science. He finished 133rd at the Division III Championship, 23rd at the Division III North Regional and 35th at the WIAC Championship last fall. The DeForest High School graduate also was an USTFCCCA All-Academic selection in 2019.

Bradford, Chadwick and George helped UW-Oshkosh finish third at the WIAC Championship, third at the Division III North Regional and 20th at the Division III Championship last fall.

A total of 248 Division III student-athletes received All-Academic honors, including 22 from the WIAC.

Elias Lindgren of Williams College (Mass.) was named the Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year. 

To be eligible for All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent at their respective regional meet.
