Titans Earn Sixth Place At Notre Dame Invitational

Jordan Carpenter ran another impressive race to lead the UW-Oshkosh men's cross country team to a sixth-place finish in the Gold Division of the Notre Dame Invitational held Friday (Oct. 2) in Notre Dame, Ind.

Carpenter, who finished second at both the Midwest Open and Roy Griak Invitational earlier this season, placed fifth among the 150 runners at the Notre Dame Invitational with a five-mile time of 24:46.

The 18-team meet featured 14 NCAA Division 1 schools, including Clemson University (S.C.) who won the event with 53 points. The Tigers owned three of the meet's top nine runners and had all five of their scorers in the top 20 positions.

Defending NCAA Division III champion North Central College (Ill.) finished second in the team standings with 88 points, while Division I schools Eastern Illinois University placed third with 115, Northern Iowa University fourth with 151 and Saint Louis University (Mo.) fifth with 156.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked 14th in Division III by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, placed sixth with 175 points. The Titans had all five of their scorers finish among the meet's top 66 runners.

The next three positions in the team standings belonged to Division I schools, as UW-Milwaukee finished seventh with 193 points, University of Illinois-Chicago eighth with 197 and Northern Kentucky University ninth with 222. Division III Calvin College placed 10th with 267 points.

In addition to Carpenter, UW-Oshkosh's team scoring included Charlend Howard's 25th-place time of 25:18, Wal Khat's 38th-place time of 25:29, Roberto Lara's 41st-place time of 25:33 and Joe Zack's 66th-place time of 25:56.

The Titans also had Justin Skinkis finish 69th in 26:01, Tyler Miletti 71st in 26:03, Brian McKnight 87th in 26:14 and Mitch Pauers 136th in 27:42.

Zach Plank of North Central College captured the individual title with a time of 24:30. James Quattlebaum of Clemson University finished second in 24:39, while Riley McInerney of Eastern Illinois University placed third in 24:40 and James Dwyer of Clemson University fourth in 24:45.

UW-Oshkosh competes next Saturday (Oct. 10) in Appleton at the Lawrence University Gene Davis Invitational.
