Damkot, Titans Finish Second At Gene Davis Invitational

Behind Trevor Damkot's second-place individual finish, UW-Oshkosh ranked second out of eight men's cross country teams at the Gene Davis Invitational held Saturday (Oct. 4) in Appleton.

UW-Stevens Point captured the team title with 46 points. The Pointers owned four of the meet's top 12 runners, including Dennis Haak who completed the 8,000-meter course in a fourth-place time of 26:44.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 78 points for its second-place finish. The Titans were without eight runners who competed at Friday's (Oct. 3) Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.

Host Lawrence University finished third in the team standings with 80 points, while Lake Forest College (Ill.) placed fourth with 102, Carroll University fifth with 109 and St. Norbert College sixth with 129.

Damkot traveled the course in a time of 26:37 to list as the meet's top collegiate performer. Michael Quesnell, who ran unattached, won the race with a time of 26:31.

Lawrence University's Max Edwards finished third among the 88 runners with a time of 26:42, while Carroll University's Chris Pynenberg placed fifth in 26:46.

UW-Oshkosh had six other runners place in the top 28. Luke Geffers led the group with a 16th-place time of 27:15, while Nate Meints finished 18th in 27:19, Mitch Pauers 21st in 27:39, Justin Skinkis 26th in 27:38, Nathan Nozzi 27th in 27:43 and Charlie Scott 28th in 27:45.

Also competing at the meet for the Titans were Daniel Massey, Derrick Rufer and Casey Karpin. Massey finished 38th in 28:06, Rufer 43rd in 28:22 and Karpin 57th in 29:43.

UW-Oshkosh is off until it hosts the AAE Invitational on Oct. 18 at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
