Dewitt Receives WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award
UW-Oshkosh's John Dewitt
(Sr. • Oshkosh) has been named a co-recipient of the 2012 WIAC
Max Sparger Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Award. Dewitt
shared the award with Tim Nelson of UW-Stout.
Dewitt boasts a 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in
mathematics and secondary education. He was named the NCAA Elite 89
Winner for the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship and is a
two-time College Sports Information Directors of America Academic
All-American, earning third-team laurels in 2011 and second-team
status in 2012.
A three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, Dewitt has been recognized on UW-Oshkosh's Dean's List every semester. He's received a number of academic scholarships from his institution.
Dewitt placed third at last Saturday's (Oct. 27) WIAC
Championship after placing eighth in 2011 and 12th in 2010. He is a
two-time All-Midwest Region performer and two-time qualifier for
the NCAA Division III Championship.
Dewitt has served as President of Athletes in Action and as a
leadership team member for Campus Crusades for Christ. He is a
volunteer for the Chancellor's Run/Walk and the International Walk
to School Day for local students. Dewitt works as a math tutor,
undergraduate research assistant and in UW-Oshkosh's mathematics
lab.
Also nominated for this year's scholar-athlete award were Jeremy Kieser of UW-Eau Claire, Matthew Borneman of UW-Platteville and Monte Stewart of UW-Superior.
In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade-point average. In addition, he must be in his last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
