Dewitt Runs To All-America Finish

John Dewitt (Sr. • Oshkosh) earned his first All-America award by finishing 32nd at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship held Saturday (Nov. 17) in Terre Haute, Ind.

Dewitt, who placed 69th in last year's race and 83rd in 2010, completed this year's 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:02. He was UW-Oshkosh's lone contestant among the 280 runners.

UW-Stout's Tim Nelson posted a time of 24:26 to win the individual title. He was a fourth-place finisher a year ago.

Bobby Over of Allegheny College (Pa.) finished second with a time of 24:34, while Grant Wintheiser of St. Olaf College (Minn.) placed third in 24:35, Kevin Sparks of Washington University (Mo.) fourth in 24:37 and Tully Hannan of Bates College (Maine) fifth in 24:39.

North Central College (Ill.) scored 167 points to successfully defend its team championship. It was the 15th overall title for the Cardinals.

Calvin College (Mich.) and Haverford College (Pa.) tied for second place in the 32-team meet with 188 points, while UW-La Crosse took fourth with 190 and Washington University fifth with 226.

Rounding out the top-10 teams were sixth-place Bates College with 259 points, seventh-place Tufts University (Mass.) with 265, eighth-place Middlebury College (Pa.) with 286, ninth-place Wheaton College (Ill.) with 315 and 10th-place UW-Eau Claire with 323.
