Dewitt Earns CoSIDA All-District Academic Honor

UW-Oshkosh’s John Dewitt (Jr. • Oshkosh) has been named to the NCAA Division III Academic All-District Team for his stellar effort this school year. Capital One sponsors the all-district team, which is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Dewitt is the only man with a 4.00 grade-point average on the District 6 squad from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Dewitt, who made the Academic All-America Team last year, is majoring in secondary education.

The all-district honor recognizes academic achievements and athletic success in cross country and track & field. Dewitt helped UW-Oshkosh to the WIAC cross country title by placing eighth (25:08) at the league meet on Oct. 29. He was the top Titan finisher when he took ninth (25:14) at the Midwest Regional on Nov. 12. At the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship, Dewitt received the Elite 89 Award for having the best GPA among national competitors.

On the indoor track, Dewitt was part of the UW-Oshkosh team that placed third at the national championship. He finished third individually in the WIAC’s 5,000-meter run with his time of 14:51 on Feb. 25.

Dewitt qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship with his 10,000-meter run (30:14.30) at the Gina Relays. He ended up placing 14th (31:50.55) in the national meet on May 26. At the conference championship, Dewitt took second with his 10,000-meter run in 31:11.59.
