Dewitt Earns CoSIDA All-District Academic Honor
UW-Oshkosh’s John Dewitt (Jr. • Oshkosh) has been
named to the NCAA Division III Academic All-District Team for his
stellar effort this school year. Capital One sponsors the
all-district team, which is selected by the College Sports
Information Directors of America.
Dewitt is the only man with a 4.00 grade-point average on the
District 6 squad from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Dewitt,
who made the Academic All-America Team last year, is majoring in
secondary education.
The all-district honor recognizes academic achievements and
athletic success in cross country and track & field. Dewitt
helped UW-Oshkosh to the WIAC cross country title by placing eighth
(25:08) at the league meet on Oct. 29. He was the top Titan
finisher when he took ninth (25:14) at the Midwest Regional on Nov.
12. At the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship, Dewitt received the
Elite 89 Award for having the best GPA among national
competitors.
On the indoor track, Dewitt was part of the UW-Oshkosh team that
placed third at the national championship. He finished third
individually in the WIAC’s 5,000-meter run with his time of
14:51 on Feb. 25.
Dewitt qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship
with his 10,000-meter run (30:14.30) at the Gina Relays. He ended
up placing 14th (31:50.55) in the national meet on May 26. At the
conference championship, Dewitt took second with his 10,000-meter
run in 31:11.59.
There were three other WIAC representatives on the District 6
Team, including Daniel Drewek and Tim Nelson of UW-Stout and Tyler
Genovese of UW-Eau Claire. The remaining selections were Christian
Calyore (Hope), Eyo Ekpo (St. Thomas), Steve Groskreutz (Gustavus
Adolphus), Dan Kerr (Calvin), Andrew Schlichting (Hamline), Tom
Sederquist (Concordia-Moorhead) and Greg Whittle (Calvin).
