Dewitt, Morey Collect Academic Awards
John Dewitt (Jr. • Oshkosh) and Tyler Morey (Sr. • Combined Lakes) wrapped up their outstanding cross country season by being named to the NCAA Division III All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
In order to be selected, a student-athlete must record a 3.30
GPA and finish in the top-35 at the NCAA regional competition. A
double-major in secondary education and mathematics, Dewitt owns a
cumulative GPA of 4.0. Dewitt received all-academic status last
year while also earning the NCAA Elite 89 award. Morey is majoring
in business administration and has a 3.68 GPA.
Dewitt finished eighth at the WIAC Championship to help the Titans
win the team title. After a ninth-place result at the regional,
Dewitt booked a season-best 25:05 to earn 69th at the NCAA Division
III Championship on Nov. 19 in Winneconne.
Morey also ran his best time at the national championship,
clocking a 24:43 for 32nd place. UW-Oshkosh finished fifth in the
team standings thanks to Morey’s All-America performance. He
added individual standings of seventh at the league meet and 18th
at the NCAA regional.
A total of 141 men were named on the All-Academic Team. Ben Sathre
of the University of St. Thoma (Minn.) was chosen as the
Scholar-Athlete of the Year after winning the national championship
race and compiling a 3.74 GPA.
Haverford College (Pa.) led the country with five All-Academic
selections. The WIAC accounted for 10 members, including a pair
from UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, UW-Platteville and UW-Stevens
Point.
