Titans Earn Two Long Jump All-America Nods In First Day Of NCAA Championship

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- Joshua Rivers became the first member of the UW-Oshkosh men's track & field team to win the long jump title at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in Virginia Beach on Friday (Mar. 8).

The Titans, who are currently ranked second in the nation, pace the field with 15 points after day one of competition.

The heptathlon kicked off the meet, which features five Titans: RJ Bosshart (Sr. • Muskego), Aden Sears (Sr. • Eureka, Ill.), Charlie Nolan (So. • Normal, Ill.), Payton White (Sr. • Berrien Springs, Mich.), and 2024 WIAC Indoor Newcomer of the Year Cavan Dobberstein (Fr. • Manawa). These all-around athletes competed in the 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put, and high jump on Friday, with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run being on Saturday. Through four events, Nolan is in third with a score of 2,911, Sears in in sixth with a score of 2,877, Bosshart is in seventh with 2,861 points, White is in ninth with 2,796 points, and Dobberstein has accumulated 2,758 points for 12th.

Sears also competed in the first round of the 60-meter hurdles. He finished with a time of 8.38 seconds for 17th place.

Following the hurdles, the 60-meter dash preliminaries took place featuring four Titans. Davian Willems (So. • De Pere) won his heat to automatically qualify for finals in a time of 6.74 seconds, a season best. He is seeded second going into the final round. Also qualifying for the finals are Joey Kean (Sr. • Middleton) in 6.80 seconds (fifth) and Danny Vinson (Jr. • Berrien Springs, Mich.) in 6.82 seconds (eighth). Ray Talbert (Jr. • Waterloo, Iowa) was the fourth Titan on the event, running a 6.91 for 18th.

Rivers (Sr. • Chicago, Ill.) won the long jump national title with a school record mark of 7.58 meters. His distance also ranks 11th in Division III history. Joining Rivers on the event with Londyn Little (Jr. • Columbia, Ill.) and Caleb Wright (So. • Oswego, Ill.) Little jumped 7.23 meters for fourth place, grabbing All-America honors. Wright jumped 6.89 meters for 13th.

Zach Zirgibel competed in the pole vault, where he vaulted a distance of 4.88 meters, taking 13th.

Dwight Hosni (Jr. • Cedarburg) competed in the 800-meter run for the Titans, finishing in a time of 1:52.10 for eighth place and setting a new personal best in his first individual appearance at the national meet.

Following the 800 was the 200-meter dash preliminary rounds, which featured Little and Rashaad Henderson (Sr. • Racine). Little finished in a time of 21.47 seconds, making the finals as the third seed and breaking his own school record by almost two-tenths of a second. Henderson finished in 21.75 seconds, taking 12th.
