UW-Oshkosh Collects WIAC Coaching Staff Of The Year Award

The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selected UW-Oshkosh as its 2022 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year.

UW-Oshkosh, guided by head coach Justin Kinseth and full-time assistant coaches Eamon McKenna and Brittany Sykes, totaled 37 top-eight finishes, including five event victories, to capture the team title at the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) held May 6-7 in La Crosse.

The Titans scored 174 points to edge the 173 by 30-time defending WIAC champion UW-La Crosse for the team crown. UW-Oshkosh's margin of victory matched the closest in the 103-year history of the league's outdoor championship.

UW-Oshkosh achieved its overall scoring value with the help of 22 points in the 800-meter run, 20 in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and 19 in the long jump.

The Titans acquired event titles from Caleb Cornelius in the high jump, John Ford in the 400-meter hurdles, Steven Potter in the 800-meter run, Jonathan Wilburn in the triple jump and the 400-meter relay group of Adrian Girone, Jaylen Grant, Aaron McCarroll-Richardson and Robert Ogbuli.

UW-Eau Claire placed third in this year's team standings with 131.5 points while UW-Stout finished fourth with 109, UW-Whitewater fifth with 88, UW-Platteville sixth with 87.5, UW-Stevens Point seventh with 42 and UW-River Falls eighth with 13.

UW-Oshkosh's conference outdoor title this season was the seventh in program history and first since 1990. The Titans also won league outdoor championships in 1927, 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1971.

UW-Oshkosh, which claimed its first WIAC indoor title since 2001 on Feb. 26 in Platteville, swept the league's indoor and outdoor championships this year for the first time since 1971.

UW-Oshkosh, ranked third in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's NCAA Division III Outdoor Rating Index, is expected to send numerous athletes to the Division III Outdoor Championship on May 26-28 in Geneva, Ohio.

Jared Benson (long/triple jump), Al Tapplin (pole vault) and Kyle Van Damme (high jump) join Kinseth, McKenna (middle distance/distance) and Sykes (throws) on the UW-Oshkosh men's track & field coaching staff. Kinseth is in his fifth season as head coach of the Titans.

This is the first time UW-Oshkosh has earned the WIAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year award since it was re-named in 2019. UW-Oshkosh's Ron Akin was selected as the WIAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year in 1984.

UW-Oshkosh was named the 2022 WIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year following the league's indoor championship.
