Eighteen Titans Earn All-Region Awards

Eighteen members of the UW-Oshkosh men's outdoor track & field team collected NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region accolades from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Earning recognition from the Titans were Mitchell Bradford in the 5,000-meter run, Jamyle Brantley and Joshua Rivers in the long jump, Jack Flynn in the discus, John Ford in the 400-meter hurdles, Andrew George in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Steven Potter in the 800-meter run, Jackson Sheckler in the shot put, Denzel Thomas in the 100-meter dash and Jonathan Wilburn in the triple jump.

UW-Oshkosh also had Adrian Girone, Jaylen Grant, Robert Ogbuli and Aaron McCarroll-Richardson obtain all-region honors in the 400- and Todd Beadle, Bo Koehn, Ryan Potter and Amitai Wheat in the 1,600-meter relays.

UW-Oshkosh's all-region count (18) ranked second in the Midwest. UW-La Crosse led all programs with 23 award winners while UW-Eau Claire, UW-Whitewater, and Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) followed the Titans with 11 apiece. A total of 121 All-Midwest Region awards were distributed for the 2021 season.

To earn all-region honors, an athlete must be one of the top five individuals in their respective region on the final TFRRS Descending Order List. In addition, each member of a region's top-three relay team was also selected for distinction.

Bradford, a freshman, ranks fifth regionally and 32nd nationally in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:39.89 from the UW-La Crosse Ashton May/Phil Esten Meet held April 16 in La Crosse. He finished fifth in the event at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship held May 7-8 in River Falls.

Brantley, a sophomore, ranks fourth in the region and 11th in the nation with his long jump measurement of 23-11 1/2 from the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open held May 14 in La Crosse. Brantley, who finished second in the event at the WIAC Championship, is seeded 13th for the NCAA Division III Championship that will be held May 27-29 at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Complex in Greensboro, N.C.

Flynn, a senior, ranks second in both the region and country with his discus throw of 177-1 from the WIAC Championship. Flynn won the event at the conference championship and will be the second seed for this weekend's national meet.

Ford, a freshman, ranks fourth regionally and 18th nationally with his 400-meter hurdles time of 53.83 seconds from the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invitational held May 13 in Naperville, Ill. Ford placed second in the event at the WIAC Championship and will be seeded 17th at the Division III Championship this weekend.

George, a junior, ranks third in the region and fifth in the nation with his 3,000-meter steeplechase time of 9:07.68 from the Hillsdale College GINA Relays held April 22 in Hillsdale, Mich. George won the event at the league meet and will be the fifth seed for the upcoming national championship.

Steven Potter, a sophomore, ranks second regionally and third nationally with his 800-meter run time of 1:50.39 from the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invitational. Potter won the race at the WIAC Championship and will be seeded third for the event at this weekend's Division III Championship.

Rivers, a freshman, ranks second regionally and eighth nationally with his long jump distance of 24-0 3/4 from the St. Norbert College Invitational held April 23 in De Pere. He is eighth in the event for this weekend's national meet.

Sheckler, a sophomore, ranks second in the region and third in the country with his shot put measurement of 58-9 1/2 from the Augustana College Twilight Final Qualifier held May 20 in Rock Island, Ill. He finished second in the event at the WIAC Championship and will be seeded third for the upcoming Division III meet.

Thomas, a sophomore, ranks fifth regionally and 11th nationally with his 100-meter dash time from the 10-58 seconds from the WIAC Championship. Thomas placed fourth in the sprint at the league meet and will be seeded 11th for this weekend's national championship.

Wilburn, a sophomore, is the nation's top-ranked performer in the triple jump. He earned the honor following his winning measurement of 51-5 at the WIAC Championship. Wilburn is seeded first in the triple jump for this weekend's Division III Championship.

In the 400-meter relay, Girone, Grant, Ogbuli and McCarroll-Richardson rank second in the region and fourth in the nation with their school-record time of 40.59 seconds from the Augustana College Twilight Final Qualifier. The squad enters this weekend's Division III Championship as the event's second seed.

In the 1,600-meter relay, Beadle, Koehn, Ryan Potter and Wheat rank second regionally and fifth nationally with their school-record time of 3:12.22 from the Augustana College Twilight Final Qualifier. The quartet won the relay at the WIAC Championship and enters the upcoming Division III Championship as event's fourth seed.

Beadle is the lone senior and Ogbuli the only junior among the Titans' eight all-region award winners in the relays. Grant, McCarroll-Richardson and Wheat are sophomores while Girone, Koehn and Ryan Potter are freshmen.
