Titans Add Five New Entries To National Top-20 Performance List

The UW-Oshkosh men's track & field team sketched five new entries on this season's NCAA Division III Top-20 Outdoor Performance List during competitions at the UW-Platteville Border Battle and Wartburg College (Iowa) Friday Night Lights Meet on Friday (April 30).

UW-Oshkosh won eight events and totaled 19 top-six finishes at the UW-Platteville Border Battle. The Titans placed third among five programs in the team standings with 129 points. UW-Platteville captured the team title with 144 points while University of Dubuque (Iowa) finished second with 136.5 and UW-Whitewater fourth with 119.5.

Jonathan Wilburn defeated eight other contestants in the triple jump with his winning measurement of 49-4 1/2 that ranks second in the nation. UW-Whitewater's Lucas Skaaland finished second with a distance of 47-11 1/4 and UW-Oshkosh's Joshua Jones fifth at 44-11 1/2.

Jamyle Brantley beat 16 other challengers in the long jump with his winning leap of 23-8 that ranks seventh nationally. UW-Platteville's Adam Wildman placed second with a mark of 22-7 1/4 and UW-Oshkosh's Aaron McCarroll-Richardson third at 22-7.

Nick Tegtmeier outlasted 12 other competitors in the shot put with his winning throw of 53-1 1/2 that ranks 12th in the country. University of Dubuque's Zachary Naatz finished second to Tegtmeier with a toss of 51-5 3/4.

UW-Oshkosh's 400-meter relay team of McCarroll-Richardson, Jaylen Grant, Joey Kean and Robert Ogbuli took first place with their time of 41.12 seconds that ranks fourth in the nation. UW-Whitewater finished second among the six competing relay squads with its time of 42.08 seconds.

Titan John Ford defeated six other entrants in the 400-meter hurdles with his winning time of 54.78 seconds. UW-Platteville's Sean Komro finished second in the event with a time of 57.44 seconds.

Grant outran 20 other participants in the 100-meter dash with his first-place time of 10.74 seconds. UW-Oshkosh's Ogbuli finished second in the sprint with a time of 10.83 seconds.

McCarroll-Richardson was the winner in the 200-meter dash. He posted a time of 21.83 seconds to defeat 31 other contestants, including University of Dubuque's Frankie Atwater who placed second in 21.93 seconds. The Titans had Ogbuli finish third in the race with a time of 22.12 seconds, Rashaad Henderson fifth in 22.43 and Denzel Thomas sixth in 22.46.

Eli Tranel rounded out UW-Oshkosh's list of winners with his height of 15-0 3/4 in the pole vault. He defeated eight other participants, including UW-Whitewater's Adam Schommer who placed second with a measurement of 14-6 3/4 and UW-Oshkosh's Cade Ellenbecker who shared third place with a vault of 14-0 3/4.

UW-Oshkosh's other second-place finish occurred in the 1,600-meter relay. The group recorded a time of 3:29.97 to trail the winning performance of 3:25.38 by the University of Dubuque.

The Titans also received a third-place time of 16.11 seconds from Kunmi Olatunde and a fourth-place of 18.53 seconds from Brant Sanderfoot in the 110-meter hurdles.

UW-Oshkosh's Evan Wendland contributed a fifth-place time of 51.01 seconds in the 400-meter run.

In Iowa at the Wartburg College Friday Night Lights Meet, UW-Oshkosh's 1,600-meter relay team of Todd Beadle, Bo Koehn, Ryan Potter and Amitai Wheat produced a second-place time of 3:12.79 that ranks third nationally. Loras College (Iowa) defeated its 10 other challengers in the race with a nation-leading time of 3:12.08.

The Titans also had Reid Marquardt finish fifth and Noah O'Neill eighth in the 800-meter run with times of 1:59.23 and 1:59.83, respectively, and Andrew George sixth and Andrew Rathkamp seventh on the 1,500-meter run with times of 3:54.63 and 4:00.27, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh finished fifth in the team scoring with 18 points. Wartburg College won the five-team meet with 243 points while UW-Eau Claire placed second with 187 and Loras College third with 151.5.

UW-Oshkosh performs at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship (presented by Culver's) next Friday and Saturday (May 7-8) in River Falls. The six-time WIAC champion Titans finished second at the 2019 league championship with 138 points. The 2020 WIAC Championship was canceled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
