Titans' George, Rivers Sweep WIAC Track & Field Weekly Awards

The selections of junior Andrew George and freshman Joshua Rivers gave UW-Oshkosh a sweep of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Kwik Trip Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards for meets held April 19-25.

George was named the conference's Track Athlete of the Week while Rivers was chosen as the league's Field Athlete of the Week.

George earned this season's second-best NCAA Division III performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with his third-place run at the Hillsdale College GINA Relays held April 23-25 in Hillsdale, Mich.

George completed the race in a time of 9:07.68. Noah Schaub of Malone University (Ohio) won the event of 39 participants with a time of 9:05.42 while Neil O'Brien of Trine University (Ind.) finished second in 9:06.98.

The non-scoring meet featured competitors from nearly 50 colleges, along with a variety of elite sponsored and amateur athletes competing unattached.

Rivers broke UW-Oshkosh's long jump record with his first-place measurement of 24-0 3/4 at the St. Norbert College Invitational held April 24.

Rivers defeated 17 other contestants with his distance, which surpassed the previous UW-Oshkosh record of 23-8 3/4 set by Alan German in 2012. UW-Oshkosh's Jamyle Brantley finished second in the event with a leap of 23-6 1/4. Rivers moved to third on this season's Division III Outdoor Performance List in the long jump and Brantley to seventh.

UW-Oshkosh used 29 place-winning efforts to capture the team title with 167 points. Carroll University finished second to the Titans in the seven-team meet with 137 points while Concordia University Wisconsin ranked third with 97.
