Grant Selected WIAC Track & Field Newcomer Of The Year

UW-Oshkosh freshman sprinter Jaylen Grant has been named the 2020 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Co-Newcomer of the Year.

Grant, who shared the award with UW-Eau Claire's Marcus Weaver following a vote of the league's eight head coaches, finished second with his time of 6.86 seconds in the 60-meter dash at the WIAC Championship held Feb. 28-29 in Kolf Sports Center.

This weekend, Grant will run against 19 opponents in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Division III Championship in Winston-Salem, N.C. Grant earned the event's fourth seed by running to a school-record time of 6.81 seconds at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Challenge held Feb. 22.

Grant competed in seven of the Titans' 10 meets this winter, including the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invitational on Dec. 7 where he also finished under a time of 6.90 seconds (6.84) in the 60-meter dash.

A WIAC Newcomer of the Year candidate is defined as a student-athlete who is in his first season of participation.

UW-Eau Claire's Kyler Lueck and Dylan Cooper were named the Track Performer of the Meet and the Field Performer of the Meet from the WIAC Championship, respectively. The Coaching Staff of the Year went to UW-La Crosse.

UW-Oshkosh scored 148.5 points to finish as the league's runner-up at the WIAC Championship for the second straight year. The Titans' point total was their highest since accumulating 168 at the 2003 championship.

UW-La Crosse compiled 169 points to capture its 19th straight WIAC title. UW-Eau Claire placed third to the Eagls with 119.666 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 74.333 and UW-Stevens Point fifth with 64.5.

Completing the team standings were fifth-place UW-Stevens Point with 64.5 points, sixth-place UW-Stout with 46, seventh-place UW-Platteville with 39 and eighth-place UW-River Falls eighth with 2.
