UW-Oshkosh's John Dewitt (Sr. • Oshkosh) was one of 16 men chosen to the first team of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Track & Field/Cross Country squad.

A total of 45 student-athletes received Academic All-America recognition, including five from the WIAC. Tim Nelson of UW-Stout and Paul Yerhot of UW-La Crosse joined Dewitt on the first team, while Jeremy Kieser of UW-Eau Claire was named to the second team and Josh Dedering of UW-La Crosse to the third. Members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) chose the teams.

Dewitt becomes a three-time Academic All-American with his latest award. He was selected to the third team in 2011 and to the second in 2012.

Last fall, Dewitt finished 32nd to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship. He also placed ninth at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional and third at the WIAC Championship.

Dewitt, who was selected as the winner of the Elite 89 Award at the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, owns a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average as a major in both mathematics and secondary education. He received the WIAC's Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award for men's cross country in 2012 and UW-Oshkosh's Senior Scholar-Athlete Award in 2013.

The President of Athletes in Action is also a leadership team member for Campus Crusade for Christ. Dewitt has volunteered for the Chancellor's Run/Walk and International Walk to School Day. He also works as a tutor and undergraduate research assistant and in UW-Oshkosh's mathematics lab.
