Titans Win Five Events At Drake Alternative Meet

UW-Oshkosh's Lewis Prior (Sr. • Coleman) won two throwing events and placed fifth in another at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative Men's Track & Field Meet held Saturday (April 27) in Whitewater.

Prior defeated 29 other contestants in the discus with a distance of 161-4 and 17 other participants in the hammer throw with a measurement of 179-9. The Titans' Jeremy Brandt (Jr. • Wausau) took first place among 23 entrants in the shot put with a mark of 55-8 1/2.

Other individual winners for UW-Oshkosh were Jerrod Berget (Sr. • New Richmond) and Jake Dickmann (Sr. • Kewaskum). Berget ran to a time of 9:49.86 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Dickmann leaped to a career-best height of 16-1 3/4 in the pole vault. The 3,000-meter steeplechase had seven competitors and the pole vault nine.

UW-Oshkosh took the top four places in the hammer throw. In addition to Prior's winning effort, Joe Brunner (Jr. • Reedsville) finished second at 176-4, Nick Grosskopf (So. • Weston) third at 170-2 and Brandt fourth at 164-6.

The Titans owned four of the top five performers in the shot put. Besides Brandt, Zachary Baehman (Fr. • Omro) finished second at 53-4 1/4, Grosskopf third at 53-0 3/4 and Prior fifth at 50-9 1/2.

The other throwing events featured UW-Oshkosh's Scott Heinz (So • Shawano) finishing second in the discus with a distance of 159-8, Grosskopf fourth in the discus with a mark of 146-2 and Alex Torres (So. • Union Grove) fifth in the javelin with a flight of 157-1.

In the triple jump, UW-Oshkosh had Lee Robinson (Fr. • Racine) finish second and Jamel Robertson (Fr. • Green Bay) third with skips of 46-11 and 43-3, respectively.

The Titans' Frank O'Neal (Sr. • Viroqua) finished second with a performance of 54.98 in the 400-meter hurdles and Brian Huebner (Fr. • Green Bay) third in the 400-meter dash with an effort of 49.87.

Other fourth-place results went to UW-Oshkosh's Ryan Gregory (Jr, • Mahtomedi, Minn.) in the 400-meter dash (50.03), Wilson Tobe (Fr. • Middleton) in the 5,000-meter run and Matt Trimner (So, • Athens) in the 110-meter hurdles.

Adding fifth-place finishes for the Titans were Trent Gilbert-Roeder (Fr. • Watertown) in the 110-meter hurdles (16.88) and Ryne Scopp (Fr. • Kenosha) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:29.01).

Kevin Caufield (Fr. • Burlington), Jacob Clarke (Fr. • Racine) and Taylor Seeger (Fr. • Chetek) concluded UW-Oshkosh's list of top performers. All three ran to sixth-place finishes, Caufield in the 110-meter hurdles (17.12), Clarke in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:30.80) and Seeger in the 800-meter run (1:58.68).

No team scores were kept at the meet.

UW-Oshkosh participates at the WIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship next Friday and Saturday (May 3-4) in La Crosse. The Titans have won the meet seven times, with the most recent title coming in 1990.
