Titans List Second At 15-Team Challenge

Donald Klitz (Sr. • Markesan) scored a trio of top-three finishes as UW-Oshkosh earned second at the Phil Esten Men's Track & Field Challenge on April 20-21 in La Crosse.

The Titans totaled 172.5 points, while UW-La Crosse won the 15-team meet with 255. UW-Eau Claire finished third with 113, as UW-River Falls took fourth at 62 and St. Cloud State fifth at 57.

Klitz won the high jump at 6-11, a mark that ranks second in the country this year. He also tallied a second-place javelin throw of 163-1 and a third-place triple jump of 46-0.75.

UW-Oshkosh won two other events. Pete Delzer (Sr. • Oconto Falls) captured the hammer throw at 191-5, while the Titans ran a victorious 3:21.67 in the 1,600-meter relay.

In the shot put, Delzer listed second at 53-10.5 and Jeremy Brandt (Jr. • Wausau) came in third at 52-1.25. More points came in the throws with third-place distances of 187-0 by Joe Brunner (So. • Reedsville) in the hammer and 164-6 by Lewis Prior (Sr. • Coleman) with the discus.

Naji Allan (Fr. • Sheboygan) placed second in the 100-meter dash at 10.93, as did Derek Johnsrud (Jr. • Fall River) in the 10,000-meter run at 31:39.94.

John McCann (Jr. • Elroy) trailed only Klitz in the high jump, as he took second with a leap of 6-8.75.

Other third-place scores came from Corey Wilch's (Jr. • Waukesha) 400-meter hurdles in 55.55 and Reid Zanoya's (So. • Monticello) 400-meter dash in 49.36.

UW-Oshkosh has three meets on its schedule for April 25-27.
