Titans Run Away With Outdoor Opener

UW-Oshkosh swept the jumps, throws and relays during a victory at its Men's Track & Field Open on Saturday (April 6) at Titan Stadium.

The Titans captured the five-team meet with 267.5 points. Michigan Tech earned second place with 120, followed by Ripon College with 95.5, Lawrence University with 25 and Lakeland College with 14.

Donald Klitz (Sr. • Markesan) accounted for two of UW-Oshkosh's eight wins. He prevailed in the triple jump with a distance of 49-5 and the high jump with a mark of 6-6.75.

As usual, the Titans owned the throwing competitions. Nick Baatz (Sr. • Brownsville) won the shot put at 55-0.75, while Pete Delzer (Sr. • Oconto Falls) took the hammer throw at 189-4 and Lewis Prior (Sr. • Coleman) captured the discus at 171-9.

UW-Oshkosh listed first in the 400-meter relay with a time of 42.88. The Titans also triumphed in the 1,600-meter relay at 3:22.51.

Other event champions were Jonathan Jordan (Jr. • Milwaukee) with his long jump of 22-7.75 and Alan Ruiz (So. • New Berlin) with his pole vault of 14-0. Ryan Sprenger (Jr. • Larsen) also posted a 22-7.75 long jump and Sandy Bautch (Fr. • Neillsville) cleared 14-0 in the pole vault to score second place.

Delzer tallied eight points with his second-place shot put of 53-10.5, as did Baatz with his second-place discus of 165-3.

On the track, the Titans received second-place finishes from Naji Allan (Fr. • Sheboygan) in the 100-meter dash at 11.13, Mike Servais (Fr. • New Franken) in the 200-meter dash at 22.91, John Block (Jr. • Madison) in the 800-meter run at 1:57.88, Matt Champan (So. • Waukesha) in the 1,500-meter run at 4:05.27 and Frank O'Neal (Sr. • Viroqua) in the 400-meter hurdles at 56.57.

UW-Oshkosh travels to the UW-Platteville Invite next Saturday (April 13).
