Record-Breaking Relay Leads Qualifying Efforts

UW-Oshkosh broke the school record in the 1,600-meter relay during its men's NCAA Qualifier meets in Madison and Stevens Point on Friday and Saturday (March 1-2).

In Stevens Point, the group of John Cejka (Sr. • Wausau), Mike Servais (Fr. • New Franken), Corey Wilch (Jr. • Waukesha) and Reid Zanoya (So. • Monticello) clocked a 3:17.07, beating the previous Titan mark that included Cejka from 2010. UW-Oshkosh finished second in the race to Augustana College (3:16.88).

Jake Dickmann (Sr. • Kewaskum) and Ryan Sprenger (Jr. • Larsen) each won an event. Dickmann captured the pole vault at 15-5, while Sprenger took the long jump with his 22-6.5.

UW-Oshkosh also placed second in the distance medley relay. Other runner-up finishes came from Zachary Baehman (Fr. • Omro) in the shot put at 54-2.5, Joe Brunner (So. • Reedsville) in the weight throw at 58-3.25, Lee Robinson (So. • Racine) in the triple jump at 45-8 and Ryne Scopp (Fr. • Kenosha) in the 3,000-meter run at 9:02.26.

The Titans won both throwing events at the Madison meet. Nick Baatz (Sr. • Brownsville) prevailed in the shot put at 57-9.75 and Pete Delzer (Sr. • Oconto Falls) notched a 62-6.75 in the weight throw.

Nick Grosskopf (So. • Weston) followed with a second-place shot put of 57-3.5, while Delzer listed fourth at 56-2. In the weight throw, Baatz claimed fourth at 59-8.5 and Lewis Prior (Sr. • Coleman) earned fifth at 59-7.

The final victory came in the triple jump, where Kyle Schueller (Fr. • Edgar) scored a 46-7.5.

UW-Oshkosh will send numerous athletes to the NCAA Division III Championship next weekend (March 8-9) in Naperville, Ill.
