Titans Jump Over Eastbay Invitational Challengers

UW-Oshkosh won all the jumping and throwing events during its victory at the Eastbay Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 16) in Stevens Point.

The Titans compiled 145 points to claim the 18-team meet. UW-La Crosse placed second with 99, UW-Stevens Point third with 90, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 84 and Carroll University fifth with 32.

Donald Klitz (Sr. • Markesan) led the way with victorious distances in both the high jump (6-7) and triple jump (46-4.75). In the long jump, Ryan Sprenger (Jr. • Larsen) flew 22-7.75 for first place.

Nick Baatz (Sr. • Brownsville) prevailed in the shot put at 57-5, while Pete Delzer (Sr. • Oconto Falls) won the weight throw at 63-4.75. Lewis Prior (Sr. • Coleman) then placed second in both standings with his shot put of 56-4 and weight throw of 60-4. Prior's shot put moved him up to fifth in the national rankings.

UW-Oshkosh also owned the fourth-place finishers in the throws, as Delzer marked a 54-5.5 shot put and Baatz posted a 59-2.25 weight throw.

John Cejka (Sr. • Wausau) turned in the top track performance by taking second in the 400-meter run at 49.58.

Other second-place results came from Jake Dickmann (Sr. • Kewaskum) with his pole vault of 14-9.5 and John McCann (Jr. • Elroy) with his high jump of 6-5.

The Titans' distance medley relay finished third, but its time ranks fourth in the NCAA Division III this season. John Block (Jr. • Madison), Ryan Gregory (So. • Mahtomedi, Minn.), Kenny Halloran (So. • Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and Matt Lawrence (Jr. • Plainfield, Ill.) clocked a 10:03.99.

In the 400-meter run, Corey Wilch (Jr. • Waukesha) crossed the line third after 50.12.

UW-Oshkosh will contend at the WIAC Championship next weekend (Feb. 22-23) in Stevens Point.
