Titans Place Second At Converse Invite

UW-Oshkosh booked four strong finishes in the triple jump as it placed second at the Converse Men's Track & Field Invitational on Friday (Feb. 1) in Whitewater.

North Central College (Ill.) won the nine-team event with 142 points. The Titans came in second with 110, along with UW-Whitewater third at 105, UW-La Crosse fourth at 96.5 and Augustana College (Ill.) fifth at 66.5.

This meet featured the top four teams in the USTFCCCA rankings. The Titans list first, while UW-La Crosse is second, North Central third and UW-Whitewater fourth.

During the triple jump, UW-Oshkosh held four of the top-five finishers. Lee Robinson (So. • Racine) came in second with his mark of 46-0.5. Kyle Schueller (Fr. • Edgar) followed in third at 45-10, to go with Donald Klitz (Sr. • Markesan) at 45-2.5 and Jamel Robertson (Fr. • Green Bay) at 44-0.5. UW-Whitewater's Marcus Smith won with a distance of 50-4.5.

Pete Delzer (Sr. • Oconto Falls) got the victories started with his weight throw of 60-10.5. Kenny Halloran (So. • Mt. Prospect, Ill.) then clocked an 8:36.61 to win the 3,000-meter run.

The shot put standings included three Titans in the top-four. Nick Baatz (Sr. • Brownsville) claimed second place at 55-10.5, while Jeremy Brandt (Jr. • Wausau) came in third at 53-4.5 and Delzer fourth at 53-4.25.

John McCann (Jr. • Elroy) cleared 6-7 to earn second in the high jump. UW-Oshkosh's remaining second-place finish came from John Block's (Jr. • Madison) 3,000-meter time of 8:42.84.

In the 5,000-meter race, John Dewitt (Sr. • Oshkosh) used 14:49.99 to cross the line fifth. Also taking fifth was Ryan Sprenger (Jr. • Larsen) in the 200-meter dash at 22.66 and Jonathan Jordan (Jr. • Milwaukee) in the long jump with his 22-8.5.

The Titans send athletes to Stevens Point and Ames (Iowa) next weekend (Feb. 7-9).
