Titans Slip Past Maroons In Season Opener

UW-Oshkosh swept the podium in four events to earn a 67-58 victory over the University of Chicago in a men's indoor track & field meet on Saturday (Jan. 12) in Chicago, Ill.

John McCann (Jr. • Elroy) was the individual standout with his performance in the high jump. McCann cleared 6-11.5 for the highest mark in the NCAA Division III this year.

The Titans dominated the throwing events, with Nick Grosskopf (So. • Weston) winning the shot put at 54-3.75 and Joe Brunner (So. • Reedsville) capturing the weight throw at 53-2.75. Jeremy Brandt (Jr. • Wausau) then placed second in the shot put at 51-7.75 and third in the weight throw at 51-5.5. Grosskopf listed second in the weight throw with his mark of 52-1.25.

In the 400-meter run, UW-Oshkosh had Mike Servais (Fr. • New Franken) clock a victorious time of 51.18, Frank O'Neal (Sr. • Viroqua) take second at 52.41 and Naji Allan (Fr. • Oshkosh) earn third at 53.11.

Titans also finished 1-2-3 in the long jump. Ryan Sprenger (Jr. • Larsen) won the event with a 22-8.5, while Kyle Schueller (Fr. • Edgar) posted a second-place 21-7.5 and Jamel Robertson (Fr. • Green Bay) took third at 19-8.75.

Robertson prevailed in the triple jump with his mark of 45-1.75. Other winners were Jake Dickmann (Sr. • Kewaskum) in the pole vault at 14-6.25 and Corey Wilch (Jr. • Waukesha) in the 55-meter hurdles at 8.14.

UW-Oshkosh took first place in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:30.40.

The remaining second-place result was Sprenger's 6.65 in the 55-meter dash.

The Titans travel to the Cardinal Opener on Friday (Jan. 18) in Naperville, Ill.
