Delzer Wins Title, Titans Fourth At NCAA Outdoor Championship
Pete Delzer (Jr. • Oconto Falls) won the hammer throw and
placed sixth in the shot put at the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Outdoor Track
& Field Championship on Thursday-Saturday (May 24-26) in
Claremont, Calif. UW-Oshkosh took fourth in the team standings with
35 points.
McMurry University (Texas) compiled 66 points to win the team
title, while the next three schools hailed from the WIAC. UW-La
Crosse placed second with 47 points, along with UW-Stout in third
at 38. North Central College (Ill.) took the fifth position with
32.33 points. UW-Oshkosh recorded its 10th consecutive top-10
showing at the meet.
Delzer continued to raise the school standard in the hammer throw,
marking a winning distance of 210-2. Teammate Ben Ludtke (Sr.
• Lyons) added eight points to the Titans’ total by
placing second with his 199-5.
UW-Oshkosh also had two All-Americans in the shot put. Nick Baatz
(Jr. • Brownsville) came in third with a mark of 59-2 3/4,
while Delzer listed sixth at 56-1 3/4. Baatz broke the UW-Oshkosh
record by less than one inch. Scoring three points, Baatz also
ranked sixth in the discus at 171-8.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Corey Wilch (So. • Waukesha) booked
a 51.66 for fourth place. The Titans’ remaining top-10
performance was a ninth-place long jump of 23-8 1/4 from Alan
German (Sr. • West Bend).
Donald Klitz (Jr. • Markesan) competed in two events, placing
12th in the triple jump at 47-6 1/2 and 15th in the high jump at
6-6 1/4.
