Delzer, Ludtke Surpass Titans' Hammer Throw Record

Both Pete Delzer (Jr. • Oconto Falls) and Ben Ludtke (Sr. • Lyons) eclipsed the UW-Oshkosh hammer throw record during a pair of final qualifier meets on Thursday (May 17) in La Crosse and Friday (May 18) in Oshkosh.

At the Oshkosh meet, Delzer launched the hammer 206-5 to break a mark he set earlier in the season. Delzer’s throw was the best in the NCAA Division III, while Ludtke posted a 203-2 to rank third nationally.

The other three event winners in Oshkosh were Nick Baatz (Jr. • Brownsville), Jeremy Roach (Sr. • Deerfield) and Mike Servais (Fr. • New Franken). Baatz recorded a shot put distance of 57-5 1/2. At his final collegiate competition, Roach fired the javelin 163-7 for his victory. Servais later ran a 50.08 to take the 400-meter dash.

Alan German (Sr. • West Bend) booked the second-place long jump in both La Crosse (23-8 3/4) and Oshkosh (23-8). The Titans’ other second-place finishes came from Delzer’s shot put of 53-4 1/2 and Ryan Gregory’s 400-meter dash in 50.29.

In the La Crosse meet, Corey Wilch (So. • Waukesha) won the 400-meter hurdles at 52.28, which is the fifth-fastest time in the nation this year.

Third-place performances were provided by Donald Klitz (Jr. • Markesan) and Reid Zanoya (Fr. • Monticello). Klitz owned the top high jump at 6-9, but finished third after the tiebreaker. Zanoya clocked a 48.58 for third in the 400-meter dash.
